The Kerala Blasters have expressed ‘deep sadness and worry’ regarding a racist incident that occurred during their match against Bengluru FC. It happened on Friday during an Indian Super League match between KBFC and Bengaluru FC.
“Kerala Blasters wish to express our deep disappointment and concern with a regrettable incident that occurred during our opening match against Bengaluru FC,” the club said in a statement.
Ryan Williams, a Bengaluru FC player, is accused of racially abusing Kerala Blasters defender Aiban Dohling. The reported event occurred in the 82nd minute of a game won by Kerala Blasters.
“It has come to our attention that during the match, one of our players was subjected to a disrespectful gesture by a Bengaluru FC player. We want to make it abundantly clear that there is absolutely no room for racist and derogatory behaviour in our Club and in the sport.”
In addition, the club stated that a formal complaint had been filed with the proper authorities. As a result, they were urged to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the situation. Football, according to the club, “unites people from diverse backgrounds and cultures” and serves as a platform for mutual respect.
