Kerala Blasters Ban: Bengaluru FC vs Kerala Blasters: Kerala Blasters’ petition, demanding a rematch against Bengaluru FC, was rejected by the All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) disciplinary committee. As a result of what Ivan Vukomanovic and his teammates believed to be an unfair refereeing decision made by Crystal John, Sunil Chhetri was able to score a contentious goal and give Bengaluru the lead. Then, the club filed a protest calling for the referee to be suspended and a rematch. Follow Indian Super League and ISL 2022-23 LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.
Kerala Blasters will face “forfeit of the match” and a “fine of at least Rs. 6 lakh.” according to the rules. But things don’t end there for the Blasters. The rule states that major offenses may result in “disqualification from a competition in progress and/or exclusion from a future competition.”

Bengaluru FC vs Kerala Blasters FC: What Exactly Happened?
- When Chettri was released down the right flank, the Blasters bench yelled angrily that he was offside. After some back and forth, the move went forward.
- Chhetri was pulled down in the middle of the field, right outside the penalty area.
- The Blasters defence was forming a wall while the referee remained at the location marking it out.
- Chhetri looked up at the referee while the Blasters goalkeeper stood far from his line and attempted to set it up.
- Everything but the ball stood still for a brief period of time.
- The moment the ball went into the goal, everyone stopped moving.
- Crystal John, the official, awarded the goal. Ivan Vukomanovic came onto the field in a rage and started yelling at John.
- He phoned his squad and left after realising the referee wouldn’t reverse his decision.
- At the corner flag closest to the tunnel, Bengaluru waited.
- Bengaluru remained on the field while officials unsuccessfully attempted to have a conversation with the Blasters’ team.
Bengaluru won the match after regulation time expired because they had just gained a 1-0 lead thanks to the free kick. Regarding the incident, neither a comment from the Kerala Blasters nor one from the AIFF had been made public. Chhetri argued that his action was legitimate when speaking to the authorised broadcasters and at the press conference that followed the game.

If a match is forfeited by a score of 3-0 if it is abandoned midway through, not played at all, or is called off for reasons that may be directly or indirectly attributable to one or both of the participating teams, as stated in League Rule 3.6.4. They would also “be liable for an additional financial sanction, deduction of points, and/or suspension by the League from taking any further part in the ISL, depending on the gravity of the incident,” according to the League.
Before Friday, there had never been a walkout in the ISL, and because the regulations are so firmly in the favour of the organisers, Blasters will be forced to accept the penalties. The All India Football Federation’s (AIFF’s) disciplinary body typically determines the sanctions, although the ISL has the option to add additional. For instance, the AIFF disciplinary tribunal fined FC Goa Rs 50 lakh and cleared club co-owner Dattaraj Salgaocar of all accusations when the team skipped the award ceremony versus Chennaiyin FC following the final at home in 2015.
