Kerala Blasters Ban:  Bengaluru FC vs Kerala Blasters REPLAY: Kerala Blasters FC’s protest with the All India Football Association (AIFF), asking for a rerun of their turbulent ISL Playoff match against Bengaluru FC has been rejected. AIFF has issued the charge notice to Kerala Blasters for the walkout, a violation of Art 58 of disciplinary code. The penalty can be fine of “at least Rs 6 lakh,” and in serious cases, “disqualification from a competition in progress and/or exclusion from future competition.” Follow Indian Super League and ISL 2022-23 LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.

The AIFF called a meeting of its disciplinary committee to immediately deliberate on the grievance with the order to be issued by the 7th of March. As a result of what Blasters claim to be an unfair officiating decision made by Crystal John, Sunil Chhetri scored a contentious goal and gave Bengaluru the lead. Blasters left the field in protest.

In an official appeal submitted to the AIFF, the Blasters claim that referee Crystal John erred in allowing Chhetri to take the prompt free-kick almost 30 seconds after the foul. Following the walkout at the Sree Kanteerava stadium in Bangalore, a first for Indian football, neither the AIFF nor the ISL have released a comment. Mumbai City and Bengaluru’s semifinal first leg is slated for Tuesday, therefore AIFF must make a decision regarding the protest within the next 24 hours.

Bengaluru FC vs Kerala Blasters FC: What Exactly Happened?

  • When Chettri was released down the right flank, the Blasters bench yelled angrily that he was offside. After some back and forth, the move went forward.
  • Chhetri was pulled down in the middle of the field, right outside the penalty area.
  • The Blasters defence was forming a wall while the referee remained at the location marking it out.
  • Chhetri looked up at the referee while the Blasters goalkeeper stood far from his line and attempted to set it up.
  • Everything but the ball stood still for a brief period of time.
  • The moment the ball went into the goal, everyone stopped moving.
  • Crystal John, the official, awarded the goal. Ivan Vukomanovic came onto the field in a rage and started yelling at John.
  • He phoned his squad and left after realising the referee wouldn’t reverse his decision.
  • At the corner flag closest to the tunnel, Bengaluru waited.
  • Bengaluru remained on the field while officials unsuccessfully attempted to have a conversation with the Blasters’ team.

Bengaluru won the match after regulation time expired because they had just gained a 1-0 lead thanks to the free kick. Regarding the incident, neither a comment from the Kerala Blasters nor one from the AIFF had been made public. Chhetri argued that his action was legitimate when speaking to the authorised broadcasters and at the press conference that followed the game.

Although there were still 26 minutes remaining in the game, coach Ivan Vukomanovic onto the field and motioned for his players to exit. Despite requests from match commissioner Amit Dharap and a senior Indian Super League official, the players left the field when their coach led them to the locker room (ISL). Luna has informed the coach and players that the referee requested him to move away after using spray to designate the location of the ball for a free kick.

In an official appeal submitted to the AIFF, the Blasters claim that referee Crystal John erred in allowing Chhetri to take the prompt free-kick almost 30 seconds after the foul. Blasters management and fans have steadfastly supported Vukomanovic since the walkout. As the coach and his players landed at their home base in Kochi on Saturday, the incredible support and commitment towards the squad was on full display. We are with you chants greeted the team warmly at Cochin International Airport in Nedumbassery.
