What Will Happen To Belal Muhammad
At UFC 286, Leon Edwards successfully defended his welterweight championship against Kamaru Usman with a majority decision victory. Dana White, in an interview with the media after the bout, named Colby Covington, the event’s unexpected backup combatant, as the next contender for the title.
UFC’s commentator Jon Anik is just one of many who have expressed their empathy for Belal Muhammad after his title hopes were dashed. White said that Muhammad would be facing Shavkat Rakhmonov, one of the division’s emerging stars, as a reward for his nine-fight win run. UFC President Dana White called Rakhmonov “an amazing beast” who aims to cement himself among the welterweight elite and noted that he is undefeated in 17 professional fights. After submitting Geoff Neal in the third round, ‘Nomad’ equalled Serghei Pavlovich for the longest active UFC finish streak at five.
Colby Covington, like Belal Muhammad, isn’t sure whether he has a shot at the UFC gold, since he still has to pass one more test. Edwards flatly rejected a meeting with ‘Chaos’ in favour of a rematch with Jorge Masvidal because of their longstanding animosity.
In anticipation of Colby Covington’s upcoming title defence, Leon Edwards has this to say: It’s not clear to me how that fits together. #UFC286
The throne is mine. Given my accomplishments, it is only fair that I select the next candidate.
