Kelvin Gastelum Eager “To Prove EveryBody Wrong” Who Doubt Him

In a video that he posted to his YouTube account, the former TUF champion discussed his intention to go back to 170 pounds

In his comeback to 170 pounds, Kelvin Gastelum is anxious to disprove his detractors, especially the UFC’s upper management.

A welterweight matchup between Gastelum (18-8 MMA, 12-8 UFC) and Sean Brady (15-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) will take place on Dec. 2 at an unspecified time and place during UFC Fight Night.

In his split decision loss against Tyron Woodley in January 2015, Gastelum missed weight by a stunning nine pounds. Since that time, he hasn’t competed at the welterweight division. In addition, he was over two pounds underweight when he defeated Nico Musoke in June 2014, but Gastelum is determined to put his weight problems in the past.

“To Prove EveryBody Wrong,” Kelvin Gastelum Says

Kelvin Gastelum recently discussed his future return to the welterweight division and said he intends to disprove his critics. In a video that he posted to his YouTube account, the former TUF champion discussed his intention to go back to 170 pounds and the concerns many had about his ability to properly lose weight.

“I know there’s people doubting me, there’s people doubting that I’m going to make the weight,”  Gastelum said on his YouTube channel. “I think even some of the bosses are doubting me. I’m going to prove everybody wrong, I’ll tell you that. I’m working with the UFC nutritionists. They’re giving me plans, and I’m going to follow it to a ‘T.’

“I have no doubt I’m going to make the weight on Dec. 1, and I’m going to look incredible. I’m going to look shredded. I know there’s a lot of you guys doubting me that I can do this, but I’m going to do it.”

Injuries prevented Gastelum from competing against Shavkat Rakhmonov at Noche UFC earlier this month. Rakhmonov was making fun of Gastelum’s weight prior to being removed from the match, and the previous interim championship challenger would have enjoyed the chance to face him.
