Though talented, it is not a usual sight for Kashmiri sportspersons to shine on the global stage, for various reasons. But that seems to have changed for the shooters from Kashmir. A Kashmiri shooter from the region made his presence felt at the Asian Shooting Championships 2023, as he won a silver medal for India in the competition, in Changwon, South Korea.
Zahid Hussain won the second prize in the men’s 50M rifle prone event and finished with 624.5 points overall. He was 1.1 points behind Kazakhstan’s Malinovskiy Konstantin, who scored 625.6 points to win the gold medal. China’s Du Linshu finished third with 624.3 points.
Interestingly, Zahid Hussain got the better of Du Linshu at the Asian Shooting Championships 2023, who recently won a gold medal at the Asian Games in the men’s 50M rifle prone event, as well as the ISSF World Cup 2023, in Bhopal. Meanwhile, the regular Indian shooters in the category, Divyansh Singh Panwar, and Aishwary Pratap Singh were not part of the event.
