Justin Langer’s contract: Shocking! T20 World Cup & Ashes winning coach Langer likely to be sacked this week- check why?
Langer might have to reapply for the post to stay as Australia head coach. He had signed a 4-year-deal with CA in 2018. He is currently in talks with CA for a couple of years but he might have to settle for short—term deal, according to Sydney Morning Herald.
Justin Langer is unhappy with what’s on offer— a short-term deal to take him through Ashes 2023.
According to The Australian, CA is likely to drop the five-candidate list for the top job. Tony Shepherd, John McMurtrie, John Gillam, Lachie Henderson and Peter Varghese are other names on the list.
If Australia decides not to renew Langer’s contract, he wouldn’t be part of the upcoming Pakistan tour despite the contract with Australia till the end of this month.
Assistant coach Andrew McDonald is likely to take charge as Australia coach in Pakistan. Langer won’t be part of upcoming T20Is against Sri Lanka at home.
McDonald will play the role of the interim coach in absence of Justin Langer against Sri Lanka in T20Is. Justin Langer and a number of other core support staff will take planned leave in preparation for the Pakistan tour.
Langer returned to Western Australia and reunited with the family after 14 days of quarantine. If he is retained then he would be able to spend very less time with loved ones.
