Big money spent, no reward! Jofra Archer likely to be released by Mumbai Indians

Ahead of the IPL 2024 Auction and the days before the retention list being published, Mumbai Indians can possibly release Jofra Archer. The English speedster joined Mumbai Indians for a staggering price of 8 crores in 2022. He didn’t play a single match in IPL 2022 and featured in only 5 matches the next season. With the player being plagued with injuries, MI will surely look for a replacement to bolster their pace department.

The England pacer has had his fair share of injuries and with such a high salary rate, Rohit Sharma and the Mumbai Indians will look out for a replacement that will spearhead MI’s attack.

Mumbai Indians shocked the world when they bought Jofra Archer for an eye-staggering price of 8 Crores in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction, knowing very well that Jofra Archer was injured and wouldn’t play a single match. But MI decided to build a team for the next year and hoped that the dynamic pace duo of Bumrah and Archer would blow away all their opponents.

But piling more misery, Jofra Archer’s injuries saw no end. In the last edition, i.e IPL 2023 Archer featured in 5 matches where he managed to scalp just 2 wickets.

The English pacer failed to make his way into the England Squad for the World Cup. He was just a traveling reserve. 2 weeks ago he joined the team in Mumbai but failed to make the playing XI. Despite Reece Topley suffering a broken finger, a replacement player was taken in while Archer continues to build his fitness and recovery from his elbow injury.

With the retention player list to be submitted in the coming days, it is highly possible that Mumbai Indians can release Jofra Archer after having spent a huge money on the player and not getting any output from the same.
