Jimmy Murphy Statue: Jimmy Murphy Statue Unveiling: Manchester United has announced that the statue honouring club legend Jimmy Murphy will be unveiled on May 3rd in front of the Stretford End of Old Trafford.. It will take place 65 years to the day after Murphy led the Reds to the Wembley FA Cup final. Three players who combined for 665 United goals—Sir Bobby Charlton, George Best, and Denis Law—have been memorialised outside the venue where they first earned their names. After speaking with a group of United supporters and the Murphy family, the club declared in May 2021 that it was preparing to erect a statue to honour Jimmy’s enormous contribution at Old Trafford. Following discussions between the club and the fan coalition in 2022, award-winning sculptor Alan Herriot was chosen to create the statue.

Between 1946 to 1971, Jimmy was an important coach and eventually Sir Matt Busby’s assistant manager.The Welshman played a significant role in the Busby Babes’ growth, notably that of Duncan Edwards and Sir Bobby Charlton, and was essential to the club’s revival following the Munich Air Disaster.

Several alternative sites for the statue were put forth, but after discussion it was decided that the memorial would be placed close to where Jimmy once led the Busby Babes on an ash-cinder training pitch outside the Stretford End of Old Trafford.
The public and fans are welcome to attend the event, which will take place at the Theatre of Dreams two weeks from today. Before the statue is revealed and seen by United supporters for the first time, the event will be emceed by Alan Keegan and feature remarks from the club and the Murphy family. The event will take held in front of the Stretford End, where fans can gather in a designated space.
