Jay Shah lambasts PCB ‘miscommunication’, confirms no visit to PAK for Asia Cup

There are numerous reports in the Pakistani media that Shah accepted Ashraf's invitation to travel to Pakistan for Asia Cup 2023, however, this is wholly untrue.

Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI, on Wednesday morning, confirmed that he will not travel to Pakistan before, during, or after the Asia Cup 2023.

According to the statement given by the chairman of PCB’s management committee Zaka Ashraf, he was invited to India by BCCI for the ICC World Cup 2023 after he invited Jay Shah to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023.

However, BCCI insider of Cricbuzz have refuted the invitations being exchanged.

“We discussed the Asia Cup, and the hybrid model received approval.” The BCCI insider, who is now in Durban, claimed that there was no such thing as an invitation to each other.

Later Jay Shah himself debunked the exchange of such communications to News18.

What Jay Shah said regarding Asia Cup 2023 invitation?

“I have not agreed to anything. This is just plain miscommunication. Probably done deliberately or mischievously. I’ll not be making any visit,” Jay Shah said.

During a meeting outside of the current ICC meeting in Durban, BCCI Secretary Shah and Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Zaka Ashraf discussed the Asia Cup and 50-over World Cup.

There are numerous reports in the Pakistani media that Shah accepted Ashraf’s invitation to travel to Pakistan for Asia Cup 2023, however, this is wholly untrue.

Zaka Ashraf, who took over for Najam Sethi at the helm of Pakistani cricket affairs, has been outspoken about his dislike of the hybrid format in Asia Cup 2023, which featured four games in Pakistan and as many as nine in Sri Lanka.

The proposed concept appears to have gained the new PCB administration’s principle support, and the Asia Cup 2023, which is set to take place from August 31 to September 17, now seems on track.

The schedule is also anticipated to be made public on Friday since every need has now been met.
