Having missed the IPL 2023 and the WTC Final, Jasprit Bumrah and Shreyas Iyer are inching closer to full fitness. The duo underwent surgery for their respective back injuries and are currently rehabilitating at the NCA. While the IND vs WI series comes too soon for them, both Shreyas and Bumrah are likely to come back for the Asia Cup 2023.

As per ESPNCricinfo, the NCA medical staff is pleased with the recovery of both Jasprit Bumrah and Shreyas Iyer. They remain optimistic about both players being available for the Asia Cup which kicks off on August 31.

Jasprit Bumrah has not played since the home T20Is against Australia last September. He underwent back surgery in New Zealand in March. As per the report, Bumrah is mainly doing physiotherapy but has recently started light bowling workloads. His bowling workload will gradually increase.

Shreyas meanwhile was troubled by a bulging disc in his lower back. He had to abort playing the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in March in Ahmedabad. Iyer then underwent surgery in London in May and is now undergoing physiotherapy. Both have reported at the NCA, where they are rehabilitating alongside Rishabh Pant and Prasidh Krishna.

Their return will be a timely boost for India as they ramp up preparations for the ODI World Cup at home. Shreyas and Bumrah largely strengthen India’s core group which has been blighted by injuries. Both the players were sorely missed in India’s WTC Final loss last week and Rohit will hope that they return to full fitness sooner than later.
