World No.1 Djokovic is the top seed in the tournament and he leads the draw by being placed in the first quarter. He has received a bye to the second round and will face either Lloyd Harris or Aslan Karatsev in the second round.
The other top seed in this draw is eighth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime. He has also received a direct bye to the second round and will face the winner between Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Ilya Ivashka in his first match. The quarter also has 12th seed Diego Schwartzman and 14th seed Reilly Opelka. Opelka will takes on Stan Wawrinka, who will be competing in his second ATP Tour match of the season as he returns from a foot injury.

Nadal, seeded third, is vying for his 11th Italian Open title. He has received a bye in his first round and is likely to face John Isner in the second round. The 35-year-old will be competing in his second event after a six-week injury layoff following a rib fracture.
Fifth seed Casper Ruud is the fifth seed and he is a potential quarter-final opponent to Nadal. Ruud begins his campaign against the winner between Sebastian Korda and Botic van de Zandschulp. The quarter also has 11th seed Hubert Hurkacz and 13th seed Denis Shapovalov.

Stefanos Tsitsipas, who is the fourth seed, leads the third quarter. After receiving a bye in the first round, he is likely to face Grigor Dimitrov in his opening round. The other top seed in this quarter is Andrey Rublev, who is seeded sixth. Tsitsipas and Rublev, who recently played the quarterfinals at Madrid are likely to face each other one more time in the quarterfinals at Rome.
10th seed Jannik Sinner and 15th seed Pablo Carreno Busta are the other seeded players in the quarter.

In his place, lucky loser Emul Ruusuvuori enters the tournament and he has been given a direct bye to the second round.
