ISL Season 8: Bengaluru FC talisman Sunil Chhetri finally break the duck as he scored a crucial goal against FC Goa and became the joint top scorer in the Indian Super League. He has now equalled the record with former FC Goa forward Ferran Corominas. Follow all the ISL 2021-22 LIVE Updates only on InsideSport.IN
It has been a dismal season for the Indian forward as he has been very poor for the Blues. The 37-year-old started slowly but things went bad to worse as the games went on. He missed a couple of penalties and was not much involved in Bengaluru FC’s attacking buildup. Therefore head coach Marco Pezzaiouli had no other option but to replace Chhetri in the starting eleven.
Good work by Ibara to setup @chetrisunil11, who scored with a brilliant header for @bengalurufc! 🤩

Chhetri tried his best to make most of the short cameos that he was handed in recent matches. Overall it has not been a very convincing season for Pezzaiouli’s men. They have struggled for consistency throughout the season and with Chhetri not finding the net, goalscoring has also been a major concern for the former champions.
The Bengaluru FC man scored the 48th goal in the ISL in the 61st minute when he headed home, Prince Ibara’s beautiful cross from the right flank. Chhetri almost handed Bengaluru FC the win when his long-range effort struck the post and went out. It was a matter of inches and Dheeraj could have hardly done anything had that gone in.
This goal will definitely give confidence to Chhetri going into the business end of the season. Although the road ahead for Bengaluru FC will be tough as they could only manage a 1-1 draw against FC Goa, they will hope that their captain can inspire the entire team for the upcoming games.
Chhetri’s confidence after scoring the goal was visible in his body language. He moved brilliantly in the final third and showed great intent. He almost found the target again but his shot was denied by the woodwork.
Marco Pezzaiouli and his men will hope to return to winning ways when they take on Chennaiyin FC on the 26th of January and with Chhetri looking to get back in form, the Blues will be motivated to push for the playoff spots.
