ISL 2021-22: Jamshedpur FC are on the verge of signing former SC East Bengal striker Daniel Chima Chukwu for the remainder of the Indian Super League 2021-22 season. The Men of Steel were looking for options in attack ever since Nerijus Valskis’s departure to Chennaiyin FC in the January transfer window. However, after looking at several options, Jamshedpur FC have reportedly settled with Nigerian forward Daniel Chima Chukwu. The experienced forward came to India this season when he was roped in by SC East Bengal. However, things did not go as planned for both parties as the Red and Golds management was not happy with the Nigerian’s performance this season. Hence they decided to mutually part ways. SC East Bengal released Chima citing personal reasons.

Chima was the best-suited option for the Men of Steel as he is already in the ISL bio bubble and once he arrives he will be available right from their next game. Whereas had they brought a striker from outside then there would have been issues with visa and then quarantine before he could hit the field.
The former Molde striker who has featured under the tutelage of former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer failed to live up to expectations in SC East Bengal colours. The Nigerian forward could only find the net twice in 10 games and was not that effective while leading the lines for the Red and Golds.
But things can change for Chima and also for Jamshedpur FC. We have seen it in the past with players like Manuel Onwu who had a tough time at Bengaluru FC but was sensational while donning the Odisha FC colours. Similarly Deshorn Brown has turned into a different player since joining NorthEast United than he was at Bengaluru FC. So a change in form can be expected of Chima. Also, he will have a seasoned tactician in Owen Coyle who has expertise in getting the best out of players.
Although his first stint in India did not go well, Daniel Chima has previously plied his trade for top division clubs in countries like Norway and Poland. He featured for Molde FK and was a pivotal player in their multiple championship-winning teams. Similarly, he also featured for Legia Warszawa where again he won multiple Polish league titles.
If the deal goes through Jamshedpur FC will have a player like Daniel Chima waiting on the bench to add a different dynamic to their attack going forward in the ISL campaign.
