ISL 2021-22: India international Sandesh Jhingan has made a shock return to Indian Super League outfit ATK Mohun Bagan from HNK Sibenik on a short term basis, the club announced on Thursday.  Follow all the ISL 2021-22 LIVE Updates only on InsideSport.IN

Reports that he has mutually parted ways with the Croatian outfit after he struggled to feature for them due to persistent injury problems. Jhingan is already in India undergoing rehab for his injuries will sign the formalities with immediate effect.

The experienced Indian defender joined HBK Sibenik in August after enjoying a good season with ATK Mohun Bagan. However, despite joining in August last year and training with the team, the Indian defender never made any appearance for the Croatian top tier outfit.

However, his inclusion will give the Mariners a huge morale boost as they look to win the title under the tutelage of head coach Juan Ferrando. ATK Mohun Bagan’s defence have not been the same after Jhingan’s departure but with his back again it will hopefully regain that stability and depth.

The 28-year-old shared a great understanding with Tiri as he was a very integral part of Antonio Habas’ unit that unfortunately lost in the finals against Mumbai City FC.

Before coming to ATK Mohun Bagan, Jhingan was with Kerala Blasters, the club with whom he made his Indian Super League debut back in the 2014 season. The defender was given the emerging player of the year award for his exceptional performance in the inaugural year of the tournament. Jhingan was part of a sensational Kerala Blasters unit and he featured in two ISL finals. But the Indian defender has not managed to win any of them till now. He will be looking to win the title this season with the Green and Maroons and break that jinx.

ATK Mohun Bagan have done well under Juan Ferrando, after winning the first two matches under his stewardship, the Mariners could only salvage a point against Hyderabad FC. While the team has looked in great shape, the backline still remained Ferrando’s main concern. He will hope that Jhingan’s arrival will help him address those problems and make them an overall very stable unit.
