Ferrando will reportedly earn twice the salary that he was getting at his former club and has been tasked with the job of getting the Mariners back in the reckoning after their recent struggle in the current campaign.
While there were plenty of rumours since yesterday, the deal was finally revealed by FC Goa club president Akshay Tandon who tweeted in the disappointment of losing the Spanish tactician mid-season.

The tweet said, “With disappointment, I’d like to confirm that Juan Ferrando has triggered his release clause, obliging us to release him of his duties so that he can join ATK Mohun Bagan. As long the money gets deposited in our accounts, we do not have a choice in his decision.”

He pointed out how the deal happened suddenly and even Ferrando could inform them of the news in the morning. However, the FC Goa president was unhappy with how the news got leaked in the media and how his staff and players got to know it from social media.
It will be interesting to see how Ferrando manages ATK Mohun Bagan after suddenly jumping ship in the middle of the season. The Green and Maroons have only secured two points from their last four matches and are winless in that period. Whereas Ferrando’s FC Goa also had a torrid start to their current campaign with three consecutive defeats. However, they have resurrected some form by winning the next two matches followed by a draw against Hyderabad FC in the latest fixture. So the Gaurs are just a point behind the Mariners in the points table after six matches this season.
Ferrando guided FC Goa to the playoffs in his first season as the Gaurs finished fourth in the Indian Super League points table. However, his major highlight with the Gaurs has to be their exceptional AFC Champions League campaign, as the Gaurs did a fantastic job of finishing third in the group and securing some great results against clubs from West Asian countries. The Durand Cup triumph will also be another highlight for him during his short stint as FC Goa battled through several adversities to win the prestigious crown.
Reports also suggest that Ferrando’s Indian Assistant coach Clifford Miranda will be the Interim coach for the Gaurs.
