After a promising display of batting in the first ODI, the host continued the good run. In the first game, Ireland, batting first, put up 195/4 in the 40.2 overs that they were able to bat. William Porterfield’s 87-ball 63 and Balbirnie’s 65 off 79 balls had laid a strong foundation to make it challenging for South Africa to chase in the windy conditions of Dublin. Ireland number middle-order batsman Harry Tector played a wonderful innings of 79 runs in 68 balls with the help of six boundaries and four maximums. He is the second-highest run-scorer in the series with 104 runs to his name.

Chasing a challenging total of 291, South Africa opener Janneman Malan gave visitors a solid start. He scored 84 runs in 96 balls. His innings consisted of seven fours and four sixes. He will play a vital role in the third ODI against Ireland.
