BCCI, IPL Governing Council, BCCI media rights consultant KPMG and other stakeholders have given THUMBS-UP to e-auction module for the finalization of new media rights partner.
“E-AUCTION in past also have given good results to BCCI’s commercial inventory. We feel we will get better value for the rights via E-AUCTION. The tender will be released by 2nd week of February”, confirmed top official of BCCI.

In 2017, the IPL rights were sold via closed bids. Star India (now part of Disney) outbidded Sony Network & others to acquire the rights for Rs 16,347 crore.
BCCI is now expecting bid in a range of 35,000 to 40,000 Crores which is almost 150% of the last value of rights.
“12,000 Crore for sale of two franchises was phenomenal. Fingers crossed, we should get 40,000 crore plus from the IPL Media Rights.”, recently BCCI President Sourav Ganguly shared light on his expectations.
Who can potentially bid for the Rights? The incumbent Disney Star Network, Sony Network, Reliance Viacom 18 and Amazon Prime Video are likely to be the primary contdenders for the rights.
The good news for the BCCI is that the incumbent Disney Star Network has declared that they will continue to bet big on IPL Media Rights & other cricket properties.

“Sports business for us is in an investment mode and we won’t shy away from investing heavily. We are going to be bullish on all rights renewals. We have over 60% market share in sports, which we want to continue to have”.

Amazon now has entered the CRICKET-STREAMING space with rights of New Zealand Cricket Board.
Though the rights were bought in 2020, Amazon started the cricket streaming services only with just concluded Bangladesh tour of New Zealand 2022 in January.
Now according to the well placed sources, world’s leading e-commerce company is likely to eye forthcoming IPL Media Rights Tender.
“Amazon can surely bid. They are now cricket ready with streaming services around cricket. I don’t think so they will shy away from the IPL Bids”, said one of the well placed source.
Amazon’s entry will further spice up the IPL Bidding race. Already with the entry of Reliance Viacom 18’s soon to be launched sports channel has made the IPL Media Rights race very interesting.
