IPL Media Rights Auction Highlights:

  • BCCI has received a total of Rs 48,390 crore from all four packages.
  • Disney-Star retained Package A Broadcast rights for a whopping Rs 23,575 Cr almost double the amount they paid last time for digital and broadcasting rights combined.
  • Viacom has paid a whopping Rs 20,500 Crore for digital rights.
  • Last time, Broadcast and Digital rights were sold combined.
  • Viacom has also bagged the non-exclusive Package C for Rs 3,273 Cr for 98 matches.
  • The base price was Rs 15 crore per match and it ended up Rs 33.40 Cr per game.
  • Times Internet has bagged Package D MENA & US territory.

@17:00: Package A (Broadcast): Disney-Star – Rs 23,575 Cr

  • Package B (Digital): Viacom – Rs 20,500 Cr
  • Package C (Non-exclusive): Viacom – Rs 3,273 Cr
  • Package D (Rest of the world): Territory A: 0.3 cr for 410 matches; Territory B: 0.5 for 410 matches; Territory C: 0.65; Territory D: 0.5 cr; Territory E: 0.63

@16:20: As per reports, Viacom18 has also won the bid for Package C. The Reliance-backed venture also bagged the Digital rights for Indian sub-continent.

  • Package B: 20,500 cr (50 per match for 410 matches): Viacom18
  • Package C: Rs 3,273 cr (33.39 cr per match for 98 matches): Viacom18

@15:55: BCCI’s total earnings from e-auction so far Rs 47,332 Cr.

@11:30: The auction for package C–non-exclusive India digital rights (18 matches)–started Monday evening.

PACKAGE C Status: On Monday night, the last bid for package C was for ₹18.75 crore per match, as against the base price of ₹16 crore, ensuring at least ₹1,837.50 crore.

PACKAGE D Status: The auction will end with Package D rights. This is the rest of the world consisting of five territories with base price for each game. Full Rest of World Territory BIDDING started at BASE PRICE of 3 Crore.

@11AM: Contrary to the REPORTS – No UK Based Channel came in to BID for United Kingdom Rights. Australia, Europe including UK has been taken by Viacom. Territories which are left is MENA (Middle East North Africa) & Sub Saharan (Super-Sport Bidding for that). USA and North America

DAY 3 IPL E-Auction Begins at 11 AM – Status of RIGHTS so far

  • Package A – IPL Broadcast Rights Package SOLD at 57.5 CR to Disney Star

  • Package C – Currently at 18.75 Crore per match / Value at 1837.5 CR – In Progress

BCCI has finally got a price of 44,075 Crore ($5.64 BN) for A+B packages. The Digital BIDS were finally closed at 50 Crore per match. While broadcasting rights fetched 57.5 Crore.

  • Viacom wins digital right for 20,500 crore. Digital is just 13% lower than the Broadcast Values.

Bids have closed at 44,075 Crore mark (USD 5.64 Billion).

According to latest info with InsideSport, Package A is is sold at 23,575 Cr (57.5 Cr Per Match). Package B of Digital Rights for India went for 20,500 Crore (50 Cr Per Match).

Overall Package A+B has got BCCI 107.5 CR per match. But the BCCI is yet confirm or give any official information about the same.

According to the BCCI – ‘NO ONE Knows the names at this stage other than the HIGHEST BIDDER himself’

@13:34: Why Package B is going for RE-BIDDING? As per the IPL Tender – Package A Winner has been given option to challenge Digital Rights Winner i.e Package B. Package winner will be given the same right to challenge Package C – What does this mean?

  • First thing: Broadcast & Digital Rights Winner are different
  • Second thing: Now the Broadcast Winner also wants to acquire Digital Rights. The RE-BIDDING will start at 2PM.

@12:45: So BIG Question who has WON Package A and Package B? Market Speculations and RUMORS claims – SONY has won the Broadcast Rights for the Indian Sub-Continent – But no official word so far or from the BCCI Sources

  • To clarify: Not even BCCI officials can see who is BIDDING. Only the BIDDER whose BID has been approved as the HIGHEST BID knows he has won the BID.

@12:30: Package A Winner has decided to challenge the Package B Winner for the DIGITAL Rights. The RE-BIDDING for Package will be done post 2PM.

@11:55 AM: Technically Package A Winner can still challenge the Package B Winner for the DIGITAL Rights. In case he does the same, the RE-BIDDING for Package will be done post 2PM.

Bids have closed at 43,255 Crore mark (USD 5.5 Billion). According to latest info with InsideSport, Package A is is sold at 23,575 Cr (57.5 Cr Per Match) and Package B of Digital Rights for India is at 19,680 Crore (48 Cr Per Match)

  • Package B caters to digital rights only and exclusively for the Indian subcontinent.
  • Package C contains digital rights for a special bouquet of matches, including the playoffs, for the Indian subcontinent only – NON-EXCLUSIVE Package
  • Package D, which comprises rights for the Rest of the World for both TV and digital, is divided into two sub-categories: combined ROW or five individual regions.
  1. What matches comprise Package C?
  • Package C comprises ‘Special Package’ matches. The number of matches in this package, the IPL has said, will vary depending on the total number of matches in the season.
  • If the IPL comprises 74 matches (like IPL 2022), the Special Package will have 18 matches.
  • If there are more than 74 matches in a season, then the Special Package matches will rise in steps of two for every additional 10 matches.
  • Why its a SPECIAL PACKAGE is because it is a NON-EXCLUSIVE Package.
