IPL Media Rights Tender – E-Auction IPL Media Rights: The D-DAY of auction of IPL Media Rights is now just few hours away. The BCCI will conduct the E-Auction to finalize the new broadcast and digital rights partner for IPL for the next 5 years. The E-Auction will be conducted starting Sunday. “We are confident IPL Media Rights will set new bench-marking for the sports industry. Don’t want to predict any number. But the BCCI is confident that it will be a record breaking number”, BCCI’s Treasurer Arun Dhummal told InsideSport.

How the auction will be conducted? BCCI will not accept any physical bid from the interested parties. The IPL Media Rights auction will be conducted via E-Auction conducted by M-Junction.
 
How the E-Auction works? The bidders will start from a same BASE-PRICE and in a PRE-DECIDED Sequence in Round 1.
 
Bidders will bid from their own premises and will only be able to see the HIGHEST BID on their respective screens. The BIDDER names will not be FLASHED on the SCREENS.
 
Bidders will have 30 minutes time to COUNTER and increase the BID. In case in 30 minutes no one increases the BID, the HIGHEST BIDDING PARTY will be awarded the RIGHTS.
 
What will be the duration for the E-Auction? The e-auction will start on Sunday but can continue for unlimited number of days.
 
The auction will continue till the HIGHEST BID and the BIDDER is not realized.
 
The auction will only end if the other parties for 30 MINUTES are not ready to increase the BID.
 
It is worth noting that in the same format BCCI’s International Home Matches Media Rights auction was conducted in 2018. The auction went on for 3 days.
 
Who are the POTENTIAL Bidders for IPL Media Rights? Almost a dozen parties had picked the IPL Media Rights Tender. Amazon, Google, Dream11 already have pulled out of the bidding race.
 
Now the bidding will be limited to domestic broadcasters Disney Star, Sony Network, Viacom Reliance & Zee Entertaiment. Even Zee Entertainment is unlikely to bid at the AUCTION according to reports.
 
The bids were evaluated TECHNICALLY by the BCCI Legal and finance committe team. The Technical evalatuation was completed on FRIDAY
 
The bidders who qualified technically have advance to the BIDDING ROUND which will be conducted on Sunday.

  • Times Internet (Only for Digital Rights)
  • SuperSport (Only for International Territory Right – PACKAGE D)
What value IPL Media Rights BID can reach? The Indian Premier League and BCCI is ready to set a BIG-RECORD. According to industry estimates, IPL Per Match value in the e-auction will easily cross 100 Crore mark.
 
And if that happens, IPL will become the World’s second most Costliest Sporting property. IPL will overtake the likes of Premier League, Major League Baseball in Per Match Value: 

The last time BCCI sold the IPL Media rights, it received over Rs 16,000 Crore. This time, the BCCI expects double that amount.

 
Will IPL Cross 100 Crore Per Match mark? The incumbent, Star India, acquired IPL media rights at Rs 16,348 crore for the 2018-22 period.
 
For the 2023-27 period, the BCCI has set the base price at Rs 32,890 crore.
 
The base price for TV rights is Rs 49 crore per match. Digital rights base-price is Rs 33 crore per match.
 
“TV price per match may not see increase more than 20-25%. But the big increase will come from Digital Rights package. All put together the values can touch 115-120 Cr per match according to our estimates”, said Sports Media Rights veteran and CEO of Sporty Solutionz Ashish Chadha
