IPL Media Rights Auction: Big development, Sony Network in talks with Amazon to bid jointly for IPL Media Rights

Sony Amazon Joint Bid? It is worth noting that BCCI will be auctioning the media rights for the new cycle of IPL (2023 to 2027) for the next five years in December. According to a report by the Hindu Business Line, Sony & Amazon can bid jointly for the rights.

The report further claims that both the parties can put up a war-chest $3-4 billion for the IPL media rights portfolio. The report quoting an industry analyst claimed that, ‘Sony Pictures has a good linear TV network but is weak in the digital streaming space. This is where a partnership with Amazon Prime could click’

  • Sony had earlier held the rights from 2008-2017
  • Star India holds the right till IPL 2022
  • Star bought the rights for 16,348 crore while Sony had put up a bid for 11,050 crore only for the broadcast rights.
