IPL 2023 Auction LIVE – IPL Franchise Meeting: BCCI has informed franchises that both Cameron Green and Ben Stokes are available for the tournament. However, whether both will be available in playoffs is still a mystery. ECB and CA will take calls on the all-rounders’ availability in the playoffs closer to the tournament start date on April 1. Australia’s qualification for WTC Final could change Green’s status of availability. Similarly, as England play a Test against Ireland from June 1, Stokes may miss out on the playoffs. Australia have one foot in the WTC Final and a lot of them will miss the last leg of IPL for the ICC Test World Cup. But in the case of Cameron Green, Cricket Australia and coach Andrew McDonald have expressed concerns about Green’s workload.
Similarly, most of the England Test players including captain Ben Stokes could miss the playoff stage. England are playing a Test against Ireland from June 1. IPL 2023 will start on April 1 and run till May 30.
“We hope to get clarity on the availability of players before the auction. The franchise meeting is where we get to know about players’ availability. If the Australians are going to miss the playoff stage, the auction plan might change to getting backups ready. So, it is important to understand the availability of players,” one of the franchise officials told InsideSport.
Why the confusion regarding Cameron Green? –
- Cameron Green is IPL Auction’s hot property.
- The all-rounder impressed everyone during the IND vs AUS series before T20 World Cup.
- Multiple franchises have cleared the salary purse for the all-rounder.
- While he has registered for the auction, Australia coach Andrew McDonald has put a question mark on his availability.
- He told Australian media that due to workload management, he may not get the NOC from Cricket Australia.
What did Andrew McDonald say? –
“His overall workload in the next 12 months of cricket, is it a concern? Yeah, I think it’s a concern for every player. We’ve spoken about it several times. It’s hypothetical to see how he’s feeling come the end of March. He’s got a lot of cricket before the IPL and I’m sure his decision won’t be made right now. It will be made later on down the track leading into the IPL,” Andrew McDonald said after the first Test against WestIndies.
