Hard to accept releases by RCB
Royal Challengers Bangalore released players like Harshal Patel, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Josh Hazlewood ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. Combined, the three are worth 29.25 crores, and their release is what helped RCB get Cameron Green for 17.5 crores. However, their decision might now work.
Hasaranga had taken 35 wickets at a strike rate of 15.77 and an average of 21.37 for the franchise. Harshal took 32 wickets in 2022 (IPL record) and has been successful for the franchise. Hazlewood also has 23 wickets in 15 matches and is excellent in the powerplay and middle overs.
Hard to accept releases by MI
Mumbai Indians let go of two rising star, Hrithik Shokeen and Tristan Stubbs ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. Shokeen and Stubbs both showed promise with the bat season but couldn’t enough opportunities. Combined the two have played 17 matches for the franchise in the last two seasons.
Hard to accept release by SRH
An expensive buy that did not fare well for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Brook ended his debut season with an average of 21.11 and a strike of 123.38. Given his immense talent, SRH let him go ahead of IPL 2024 auction instead of giving him another year to prove himself.
Hard to accept release by Delhi Capitals
Letting go of Philip Salt might not be the best for DC. Having played just 9 matches, the opener had a strike rate of over 160 while averaging over 25. For a price of 2 crore, the English opener seemed worth retaining.
Hard to accept releases by KKR
Two volatile players, Shardul Thakur and Lockie Ferguson, were released by the Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. Worth 20.75 crores, the all-rounder and the fast bowler were let go due to their inconsistent performances. Given that Lockie has gotten his form back and Shardul has a knack for getting teams out of tough situations, the duo shouldn’t have been released.
Hard to accept release by Punjab Kings
Worth 9 crores, Shahrukh Khan did what he could. Coming in as the finisher, he struck the ball over 165 while averaging a little over 22. The all-rounder seemed to have done his job, but PBKS weren’t satisfied.
