The CSK captain, along with team members took a lap of honor and thanked the Chepauk crowd for turning out in huge numbers to witness Dhoni in action, possibly for the last time in the IPL season. The moment of the day came when Dhoni gifted away a few signed goodies to the Chennai public. The wicketkeeper batter, along with a few of his CSK teammates threw away the CSK jerseys during the lap of honour. The fans also got pretty emotional seeing their captain with a heavily strapped bandage on his knees, but their spirits were not deterred as they made sure to give a fitting farewell to Dhoni.

Dhoni is still keeping fans guessing about his impending retirement, when Danny Morrison quizzed about his swansong, the CSK captain cheekily replied by saying, “It is you that have decided on my last season, not me. While Suresh Raina has confirmed that Dhoni might play for one more after winning the trophy. CSK officials have also confirmed that Dhoni has spoken about retirement yet.
“MS has not informed us anything about his retirement yet. We understand that the day will come sooner than later. But he understands his responsibility better than others. One of them is choosing the next captain. At the moment, we do not have many options. Ben has struggled with injuries, Jadeja had his chance but could not deliver. So, that may be the reason. But as things stand, MS has not told us anything about retiring at the end of IPL 2023,” a CSK official in the knowhow told InsideSport.
Speaking about CSK vs KKR match, the Dhoni-led side suffered a rare defeat at Chepauk by six wickets. With this win, KKR are still marginally in the hunt for playoffs, while CSK can still finish on two with a win against DC. CSK can now maximum get to 17 points and hope few results go their way for the second finish in the points table.
