IPL 2023: SKY interviews Brevis – India’s Mr 360 Suryakumar Yadav has enjoyed his time with future superstar Dewald Brevis. With IPL 2023 still some time away, Brevis had a heart-to-heart chat with World No 1 T20 batter. The two reminisced their fondness for home-cooked butter chicken and love for choppies. While Brevis will be playing for MI Emirates in SA20 League, he will reunite with SKY at Mumbai Indians for IPL. Follow SA20 League & IPL 2023 LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.
The video call between the two Mumbai Indians superstars was more about the admiration both players have for each other. SKY hailed Brevis’ 57-ball 162-run blitz in a T20 match while Baby AB is still floored by Suryakumar’s meteoric rise and the knocks at T20 World Cup.

SKY: Mr. Brevis, How are you. Did you finish the Butter Chicken?
DB: Oh really. I finished it already but it isn’t like, I can’t compare like. I can’t get it this side as how it was there.
SKY: You know what, I am really missing your Choppy.
DB: When was the last time you had Choppies?
SKY: Recently in New Zealand.
DB: How was that compared to the Lemon we had on it and stuff?
SKY: Na Na Na, It wasn’t that great.
DB: But see I am eating Biltong here. Dry meat in South Africa. It’s very tasty as well.
SKY: Nice, very nice. Have you been in touch with your best friend?
DB: That’s not even a question. Mr.Tilak and I have been in contact so many times. I think that the last few days we were…we didn’t call. I think I can’t remember, it wasn’t that age but I need to give him a call again. Like whenever he calls, I phone him the next time.
SKY: You should definitely call him, because he was expecting your call. He said DB is the only guy who hasn’t called me till now.
DB: He’s make me feel bad. I am feeling bad right now.
SKY: So, the last time I saw in T20 you batted 50 to 55 balls and you scored around 160. So now, in one day competition if you bat 100 balls are you going to get a triple hundred?
DB: That would be my goal, but it is a longer format, and you need to have much more experience. But yes, you have to play the game a bit different in a way.
SKY: Absolutely correct, I mean, just run me through man, I actually read it. I couldn’t see how you batted in that game, but I saw on MI’s page that you got 52-ball 162 right? Or 55-ball 162?
SKY: 52-ball 160+, I mean, what did you eat that day?
DB: I had my normal omelette in the morning. I just had another normal day. I just happened; I think, everything just happened in that moment. I played every ball at its own time. And then at the end, I told one guy, listen, I am going to hit every ball for six now. It just happened. It was a moment thing. It was a special innings.
SKY: I am just trying to copy you sometimes. I want you to teach me that no-look shot. I just want to learn that from you.
DB: I would love to, but i would love to learn lots of shots from you as well.
SKY: Who are you missing the most from MI family?
DB: I miss everyone. Spending time with you, Rohit. I can’t wait for the next season
Brevis: Your World Cup went well, being able to just bat like that throughout the tournament. Congratulations on being the No. 1 T20I batsman. That’s just insane. I must learn from you.
SKY: Thanks, have you started cooking.
DB: I tried butter chicken but i want to perfect it. I am eager to come to India to try butter chicken and biryani and other delicacies.
SKY: Absolutely we are looking forward to see you. I am really looking forward to what you do for MI cape town and in the same thing you did a few months back. Let’s do the same thing again for another family.
DB: Yeah absolutely. The MI family is one big family and it is lovely to be a part of the MI family.
SKY: When you will come to India you will surely get nice home cooked butter chicken and biryani from Devisha
DB: I promise you when I see you I will make sure that we get the choppies.
It was an exciting moment for the Mumbai Indians when they bought Dewald Brevis in the IPL 2022 auction. Popularly known as ‘Baby AB’ due to his similarity to AB de Villiers, Brevis had performed brilliantly in the Under-19 World Cup just before the IPL. Brevis had a mixed IPL season last year, scoring 161 runs at an average of 23, with a strike rate of 142.
