“I will just say thanks for the support, they came in big numbers. Most of these guys will come in a KKR jersey next time. They are trying to give me a farewell, so thanks a lot to the crowd,” he said.
IPL 2023: Is this MS Dhoni’s last season in IPL CSK captain drops hints about his potential retirement
It’s the second consecutive game that Dhoni has dropped hint about his potential retirement. After the match against SRH, the CSK skipper cheekily told Harsha Bhogle that he is in the last phase of his career, and in the post-match presentation after the game against KKR, the wicketkeeper batter thanked the Kolkata crowd for turning out in huge numbers.
“All said and done, it’s the last phase of my career, however long I play. After two years, the fans have had the opportunity to come here and watch, feels good to be here. The crowd has given us a lot of love and affection. Not getting enough chances to bat, but no complaints,” he had said.

Before the IPL 2023 season, the build up to the CSK campaign was all about Dhoni. At the halfway stage of IPL, the CSK skipper’s retirement topic is gaining steam with each passing day. InsideSport got in touch with one of the CSK officials, and they confirmed that this will be Dhoni’s last season as a player.
“Yes, it will be MS’s last season as a player. That is what we know so far. But of course, it’s his decision. He hasn’t officially communicated to the management that he will go into retirement. It is a special occasion for all CSK fans as IPL returns to Chennai. But it will be a sad moment if Dhoni plays his final season,” a CSK official told InsideSport.
