IPL 2023: Chennai Super Kings: Ahead of the IPL 2023 mini-auction, the Chennai Super Kings released as many as eight players from their squad. The Yellow Army camp also decided to release their veteran all-rounder Dwayne Bravo. Meanwhile, the four-time champions will be looking to find a potential replacement for their long-standing skipper MS Dhoni. “As far as CSK captaincy is concerned, MS will take a call after a discussion with the team management. We also have an auction coming up and we will keep our options open for a possible candidate. As things stand, Jadeja is not in plans for future captaincy. But things can change later,” a CSK source told InsideSport.IN.

1. Kane Williamson

The CSK team management might want to bag the services of NewZealand skipper Kane Williamson and hand over him the captaincy once Dhoni retires from IPL. To note, CSK has INR 20.45 crore in its kitty and the Yellow Army might need to spend a decent chunk of amount to grab Williamson in the auction. It remains to be seen if Williamson will be donning the yellow jersey in the upcoming season.

2. Ben Stokes

England’s star all-rounder Ben Stokes recently played a crucial role with both bat and ball in England winning the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. Stokes played alongside MS Dhoni in his debut season in IPL 2017 for Rising Pune Supergiant. To note, he was also adjudged player of the tournament for making significant contributions to Pune’s progress till the final. Dhoni would also know Stokes as a character in the dressing room; someone who leads by example and commands respect from his teammates.

3. Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad might be groomed as a young skipper who can take over the reins once Dhoni retires. Gaikwad has been a quality performer for CSK in the recent past and can be looked as a long-term captaincy option. The 25-year-old has played 36 IPL games and has stroked 1207 runs at a decent strike rate of 130.35. He also has ten fifties and one century to his name in IPL.
