Rohit Sharma surpassed MS Dhoni as the player with the highest IPL earnings ever. The Team India skipper has played most of his IPL games for the Mumbai Indians, helping them win five IPL trophies. His IPL earnings are Rs. 178.6 crore in total as per Moneyball.
Notably, MS Dhoni, the captain of the Chennai Super Kings, was the player who cost the most during the inaugural auction. His first pay was Rs 6 crore, rising to Rs 8.28 crore in 2011, Rs 12.5 crore in 2014, and Rs 15 crore in 2018. Dhoni accepted a contract worth Rs 12 crore for the last season (IPL 2022). His total earning is Rs. 176.84 crore.
MI captain – Rohit Sharma
With five championships, the most by any player in the IPL, Rohit Sharma has cemented his reputation as the most successful skipper. He’s cracked the code, making MI the most reliable side. The Hitman has enjoyed a fantastic run with the bat and is one of the most naturally gifted batters in the game. He is a prolific run-getter.
There aren’t many who can match his striking prowess in the shorter format. Rohit became the first batsman to score two double century in ODIs, and he now has three, demonstrating why he is considered as a remarkable talent.
In the first three IPL seasons, he was one of the most reliable batters for the Deccan Chargers, and he helped his previous team win the title in 2009.
But since 2011, Rohit has played a crucial role in leading the Mumbai Indians’ batting order. A few games into the 2013 campaign, he assumed leadership of the team and guided MI to their first IPL championship.

The same year, MI won the Champions League T20 championship, completing a grand slam. In the 2015 season, when the squad had won only one of its first six games and was having trouble staying afloat, his captaincy was put to the test. The Mumbai Indians then pulled off a spectacular comeback and won the Trophy with ease in the championship match. Rohit, who made a half-century, was named the Player of the Match.
After helping Mumbai Indians win championships in last-ball thrillers in both the 2017 and 2019 seasons, Hitman’s legacy continued to grow. The Mumbai Indians won their second straight championship under Rohit’s leadership in the 2020 season.
MI will be ready to go this time around after missing out on the playoffs in the 14th and 15th seasons.
Thala of CSK – MSD
When CSK won their fourth league championship in 2021, MS Dhoni added another accomplishment to his resume. One of the four players the franchise kept before the 2022 season of the league was MS Dhoni, who was paid INR 12 crore.
For the first eight seasons of the league, he served as the face of the Chennai Super Kings, helping them to two championships (in 2010 and 2011) and four runners-up results.
He then became the first player selected by Rising Pune Supergiant in the league’s ninth season. And once more, he was the first player retained by CSK before the 2018 IPL Player Auction.

The league’s 2018 campaign came to a spectacular conclusion with the Chennai Super Kings adding yet another gleaming trophy to their collection. Under the leadership of MS Dhoni, the CSK also made it to the league finals in the 2019 season.
MS Dhoni retired after a brilliant 16-year career with Team India in 2020. But he is still sporting the CSK colours and one expects the 2023 season to be his last hurrah in cricket.
