IPL 2023 Prize Money: SA20 League Prize Money – With ever-growing franchise leagues, cricket boards are on a war path to make it more lucrative. Cricket South Africa’s SA20 League has made the first jump by announcing a Rs 33.5 Cr prize money. It’s now over to ILT20 to come up with a bigger pool. UAE T20 League already raised eyebrows, announcing $450,000 highest slab for players. However, it’s BCCI who is set to trump all with a bigger prize pool. Currently, IPL Prize Money stands at Rs 46.5 Cr. But InsideSport understands that it is set to increase for IPL 2023. Follow IPL 2023 Auction LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.
IPL prize money has not increased since 2016. Instead, it went down in 2017 and 2019 before returning to the current level. But with BCCI pocketing Rs 48,390 Crore from media rights, the tournament’s prize money will increase by 20-25%.
“Unlike other leagues, prize money is not a big factor in IPL. But yes, we have not revised the prize money for some time and it’s due. We will discuss whether it warrants a revision soon,” one of the BCCI officials told InsideSport.

However, the new IPL Governing Council is yet to take a call on the increase in the amount. Earlier, an official said the discussion was on regarding a 20-25% hike in the prize money. With former BCCI treasurer being in-charge of IPL, it may finally see the light of day.
“That (increasing prize money) is currently under discussion. The prize money should be increased by 20-25% from next year. But the amount is not yet final. There should be a decision next year before the tournament,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport earlier.
However, the Rs 20 Crore prize money is still the highest amongst all franchise T20 leagues. Furthermore, the franchises do not depend on prize money as they get a big chunk of TV rights money from the BCCI.
“Well, if you put it that way, the prize money should increase every two years. With 10 teams, it should definitely increase. But as you are aware, it is only symbolic. Definitely, the players, who are picked for their base price or in lakhs get a good bonus. But from a franchise business point of view, it does not impact,” a CEO of a franchise told InsideSport.
