RCB, MI, and RR are tied at 14 points. RCB are in fourth position with a net run rate of +0.180, while MI are in fifth place with a net run rate of -0.128. This implies that RCB would advance even if both teams had narrow victories. In a similar vein, if RCB wins and MI loses, the table standings will not alter. However, if MI wins their game and RCB loses against GT, MI will advance due to their higher point total.
In order for MI to advance despite both teams winning, their margin of victory must be higher than RCB by at least 78 runs. It implies that MI need to win by 79 runs in order to advance, even if RCB wins by just one run. The only way RR has a chance of making the playoffs, though, is if both MI and RCB lose. Since MI are already below RCB, in this case, it will come down to their NRRs.
RR still have a mathematical chance of qualifying, but their fate is no longer in their control. The outcomes of other games and other teams’ net run rates will have a big impact on their qualification chances. If GT defeats RCB (by a significant margin) and SRH wins their last game, all three teams will finish with 14 points, but RR will qualify because of a higher net run rate than MI and RCB.
