Australia and David Warner stumbled to an embarrassing inning defeat loss to India in the 1st Test match at Nagpur. While the Aussies had no reply to the Indian spin attack, David Warner’s poor batting form adds to his misery. The Opener managed just 1 and 10 runs in both innings as Australia lost the match by an inning and 132 runs.

His poor form has now risen the attention of the media with experts claiming that Warner should be benched for the next game. However, it is highly unlikely that Warner will be dropped from the Delhi Test, it can be said that his Test stint is nearing its end. What can Warner do to revive his Test future? The answer is simple. Go and score big runs.

IPL 2023 Delhi Capitals Captaincy Candidate

Rishabh Pant is ruled out of IPL 2023 and this opens a huge spot in the Delhi Capitals team as to who will pick up the role of the captain. David Warner now gets a wonderful chance to show Ricky Ponting and Sourav Ganguly that he can be a good captain if he goes on to perform well in the upcoming Test.

While India is once again preparing to unleash the spinners in a turning pitch at the Feroz Shah Kotla, it needs to be understood that Warner is a good player of spin bowling as has been evident from his aggressive batting style over the ages. Thus essentially, Warner needs to pass the litmus test against Ashwin and co.

“Pant has been the mainstay of the middle-order. Warner has the experience of leading IPL teams. The management will speak to him,” reports the Times of India.

David Warner’s Rough Patch

Be it the shortest format of the game or the longest format, David Warner is going through a rough patch. With thoughts arising of dropping him from Test cricket, it should be noted that Warner has never been dropped in his life. The only time he missed the action was when he was suspended for a year owing to the Sandpaper Scandal in 2018-19.

Though Aussie skipper Pat Cummins confirmed that there will be tweaks in the batting order after the Nagpur Test, it is however understood that Warner will retain his place but he faces a race against time.

“We’ve had a really good run the last 12 months. There hasn’t been many losses in that change room. I don’t think we need to reinvent the wheel, it’s just tweaking different approaches to how we play and maybe particular methods, “ said Pat Cummins.

David Warner’s Performance in Test Cricket in Recent Games

Warner’s last big and only big score came against South Africa in the Melbourne Test on Boxing Day. Warner slammed a wonderful double century but has failed to perform well in the next games. The destructive batter failed to fire in the Big Bash League and was horrible in the Nagpur Test along with his fellow batters.

With his Test future at Stake, Warner now has to put up a wonderful show to prove his worth. With IPL captaincy also up there for grabs on his home ground for IPL, Warner should not miss this golden opportunity.
