IPL 2023: Following Australia’s 21-run victory over India in the third and final ODI, Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh said there is some natural aggression in his batting which he enjoys. Marsh was named the ‘Man of the Series’ for scoring 194 runs in three innings at an average of 97.00 and a healthy strike of 131.08, with the best score of 81 and two half-centuries. While Marsh did not bowl during this series subject to his fitness issues, he is a more than handy bowler as well. This is a good sign for Delhi Capitals (DC) ahead of IPL 16. Marsh as a prospect for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023
In his 46 match T20i career, Marsh has made 1086 runs at an strike rate of 127 and has picked up 15 wickets at an average of 23.20. Marsh was part of the Australian 2021 T20 WC winning team and was adjudged man of the match in final for his 77* off 50 balls at an strike rate of 154.
In his brief IPL career, Marsh has played a total of 29 matches, making 477 runs at an average of 22.71 and strike rate of 123.58 while picking 24 wickets at an economy of 8.01.
Delhi Capitals already have two seasoned openers in their team in David Warner and Prithvi Shaw but with the lack of form Warner is in and the fickle nature of the T20 format, Marsh can be used as backup opener.
What prompts this debate for using Marsh as an opener is his recent promotion to open the innings in the ODI series vs India. In the absence of Warner and retirement of former captain Finch, Marsh was selected to open the batting and he didn’t waste his opportunity. Marsh not only made most runs in the series but did so at an strike rate of more than 130. Marsh has made his case for the upcoming IPL 2023 season, now the ball is in the court of Delhi Capitals management.
