IPL 2023 – MS Dhoni CSK Captain: MS Dhoni has been confirmed as the captain of the Chennai Super Kings for Indian Premier League 2023. The development was confirmed by CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan on Sunday. It is not a huge surprise considering Dhoni’s influence in the CSK camp after helping them become one of the successful teams in the cash-rich league. Follow IPL 2023 live updates with InsideSport.IN
“There is no change in our stance. We never said that there will be a change,” Kasi told InsideSport making it clear that Dhoni will continue as the captain of the Chennai Super Kings for IPL 2023 as well. Chennai have won the titles four times in the past under Dhoni, and the last one being IPL 2021.
IPL 2023: Big update from CSK camp, CEO Confirms that ‘MS Dhoni will captain Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2023’: Follow LIVE UPDATESIt is important to mention that Dhoni had handed over the captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja before the start of IPL 2022 season. But the team did not do well under the new captain as CSK lost six out of their eight matches.
Jadeja handed overs the captaincy reins back to Dhoni, who took over the captaincy duties for the remainder of the season in the greater interest of the team.
But, more importantly, this confirmation from the franchise CEO also means Dhoni will be playing in IPL 2023. At the end of the last couple of IPL seasons, his availability for the next IPL always comes under a cloud. He normally hints at returning back, but does not confirm if it is in the form of a player or a member of the coaching staff or likewise.

With him at the helm of affairs from last season, one can expect CSK to bounce back from a poor IPL last season. There is genuine respect for Dhoni in the dressing room and the top management at CSK. Besides he is a huge fan favourite and everyone addresses him as Thala, meaning leader.
The team has always been at their best when the IPL is played in in its home and away format. The same format is expected to be applied in IPL 2023, which makes it interesting for all eight teams, especially Dhoni and his men. Chennai become a force to be reckoned with, especially at their home turf in Chidambaram Stadium.
However, it will be interesting to see what happens with Jadeja. The former captain and CSK as per reports in the past few months suggest that the two are not in talking terms as well after IPL 2022. The all-rounder has also deleted social media posts from his account. At the end of the season, Jadeja also withdrew from IPL, citing injury.
