IPL 2023: BCCI’s NEW DIKTAT puts IPL franchises in BIG FIX, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya & Ravindra Jadeja get CONDITIONAL NOC with World Cup 2023 around corner, Follow LIVE Updates

It is worth noting that the IPL franchises are already in a fix and in state of confusion with BCCI’s diktat this Sunday.

Given the rising injury problems, BCCI has dictated NCA to work with IPL franchises to monitor players’ fitness and manage workload during IPL 2023. The Indian cricket board in a review meeting opted for some stringent measures to manage workload and injuries better. The NCA will remain in touch with franchises, meaning the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Burmah and Hardik Pandya have only ‘Conditional NOC’ to feature in the tournament.

The diktat could very well see some of the star players rotated or rested during IPL 2023. With IPL teams shelling out crores of rupees on players, it comes as a blow as they will be forced bench players with a history of injuries. To name a few, Mumbai Indians captain and vice-captain Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah feature in the list. Furthermore, CSK will also be mindful of Deepak Chahar and Ravindra Jadeja. All four players are crucial to India’s World Cup 2023 aspirations. Even Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya will have to take it easy.

“It is a hassle and it is not at the same time. Players make IPL the best and not franchises. So, it’s important to take care of them. No one would want another Deepak Chahar or Shreyas Iyer to miss entire IPL. They are important for IPL brand. But, at the same time, we will have to carefully manage their workload so that they don’t suffer injuries. That may involve resting them or utlising them carefully to manage workload,” a franchise official told Insidesport.IN

BCCI has shortlisted 20 players for the World Cup 2023 in October. To safeguard the players, BCCI has asked the NCA to work with IPL teams on workload management. Apart from the Yo-Yo test, BCCI has made Dexa test mandatory for any returning player after an injury layoff.

With the 2023 World Cup around the corner, the BCCI has asked NCA to take up matters into their hands. As per instruction, the NCA led by VVS Laxman will be in touch will all IPL franchises to manage the workload of the players. High-risk players like Jadeja and Hardik Pandya have only been given conditional NOC. Hardik himself missed a few games last year to manage injury with the Gujarat Titans.

The BCCI had hinted at the plans during the IPL franchise meet last month before the Auction. The Indian board has always kept a tab of contracted and targetted players during the tournament. While no DIKTAT has been officially passed, it is believed that the NCA has been looped into the process. ESPNCrinfo reports that the NCA medical staff gave a detailed presentation on workload management.

IPL 2023: Franchises in HUGE FIX after BCCI Diktat

  • BCCI have shortlisted 20 players for the upcoming ODI World Cup.
  • Injury management and workload were discussed at length.
  • The injuries of Bumrah, Jadeja and Deepak Chahar were deliberated upon.
  • NCA medical staff gave a detailed presentation on workload management.
  • The fitness of these players will be monitored by the NCA.
  • Even during the IPL franchises will have to loop in NCA on their condition
  • The decision comes aiming to ease the workload, and players have been given conditional NOC.
  • The likes of Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja & Jasprti Bumrah could miss games to avoid risk of injury.
  • IPL teams have always kept a tab on contracted players, but now the NCA is also looped in on the process.

India have struggled to keep their best players fit in 2022. Star players Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah missing a substantial bit of action. Captain Rohit Sharma also missed the tour of South Africa and the 5th Test in England. Deepak Chahar, Washington Sundar, Mohammad Shami and KL Rahul have also been frequented by injuries.

However, Hardik and others are amongst the biggest earners in the IPL. Franchises are likely to protest the same given how each game matters in the race for the playoffs. Thus, teams could argue that they did not pay crores to have stars play for just 10 games. Jadeja bags Rs 16 crore from CSK, while Hardik Pandya gets Rs 15 crore from the Gujarat Titans.

A franchise official added that the new ruling is a double-edged sword for the teams. They however admitted that players need to be taken care of, given that they make the IPL and not the franchises.

“We have not received any diktat or advisory as such from the BCCI. We were told during the franchise meet to keep a tab on the players’ fitness during IPL. That we always do. What we understand from this is that all fitness status will now be sent to the BCCI medical team and the NCA. We will get more clarity when we receive the official info from the board,” a franchise official told Insidesport.

India have an action-packed year with the Border Gavaskar Trophy, the Asia Cup and the 50-over World Cup on the horizon. The IPL is sandwiched from April to May, with each team set to play in a home and away format.
