IPL 2023: MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have got a big relief ahead of Indian Premier League season 16. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has refuted media allegations that its players would be subject to an IPL auction ban as a result of their inability to participate in the first few games of the upcoming season, which is set to begin on March 31.

Wanindu Hasaranga (Royal Challengers Bangalore), Maheeh Theekshana, and Matheesha Pathirana (both Chennai Super Kings) are three Sri Lankan cricketers who won’t be participating in their respective IPL franchises’ first matches of the IPL 2023 due to national commitments.

4 Sri Lankan players in IPL 2023

The limited-overs portion of Sri Lanka’s trip, which will be completed on April 8 with the T20I series, is now taking place in New Zealand.

The BCCI was allegedly displeased with the situation and that there would be repercussions, according to sources in the Sri Lankan media.

This year’s IPL will include four Sri Lankan athletes, however only Bhanuka Rajapaksa (Punjab Kings) will be available for the full competition.

The SLC handed NOCs to its IPL-bound stars while rejecting any unhappiness on the part of the BCCI, according to a report in Sri Lanka’s Daily Mirror.

“We have issued the players with no objection certificates to go for the IPL after the New Zealand tour, and the BCCI have accepted it. They have not expressed any sort of displeasure in the players being unavailable for the opening few matches,” the publication quote an SLC official as saying.

Several South African athletes, such as David Miller, Kagiso Rabada, Quinton de Kock, Anrich Nortje, and Lungi Ngidi, will also be absent from the first five IPL 2023 games. On March 31 and April 2, South Africa will host the Netherlands for two one-day internationals.
