The BCCI has already informed the franchises about the availability of all the players going into the auction. It has come to light that there is a big SNUB in store for the SriLankan and Bangladesh cricketers at the Auction. After all, comes to terms of it, which IPL franchise would like to spend millions of dollars on a player, whose availability for the whole season is doubtful. One of the major reasons being that Bangladesh will take on Ireland in May and the ones selected for the series will not be a part of the complete IPL duration.
“Players chosen for the Ireland series will be available from April 8 to May 1,” according to the email.
The BCCI notes that the Sri Lankan players will arrive on April 8, which means that a team like Royal Challengers Bangalore will be without their key bowler Wanindu Hasaranga for the first few games.
On the other hand, it is reported that England and Australian players would rather be available for the whole duration of the IPL despite the Ashes lined up in June next year.
“Full Availability. Players selected for ODI series against Afghanistan will be available from 30 March. Players playing final of Sheffield Shield to be available from 28 March,” the BCCI mail says of the Australian players.
About the England players availability, the email mentioned only two words: “Full Availability.”
It is now learnt that England Test captain Ben Stokes will play full IPL, unless there is a last-minute change. In addition, players from New Zealand, South Africa and West Indies are expected to be available for the complete duration of the tournament.
Last year, not even a single Sri Lankan player was a part of any franchise in the IPL 2022. This is despite the fact that their legends like Mahela Jayawardena and Kumar Sangakkara were part of the Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals franchises. From Bangladesh, only pacer Mustafizur Rahman was a prominent name in the IPL 2022 and played for the Delhi Capitals. Star player Shakib Al Hasan failed to attract a bid at the last IPL auction. Will history repeat itself in Kochi later in the day?
