IPL 2023 Auction – Cameron Green IPL Availability: BCCI might have released the shortlist for 405 players to go under the hammer in auction but franchises are still in dark about players’ availability. The players in focus are from Australia and England. With Australia frontrunner for WTC Finals spot, NOC for players could be an issue. Similarly, most of the Test players including captain Ben Stokes will miss the playoff stage in IPL 2023 as England are playing a Test against Ireland from June 1. BCCI has sought clarity from both boards but is yet to receive a response. Follow IPL 2023 LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.
“It’s frustrating to not know whether the said player will be available for the entire duration of the tournament. A lot of planning goes before the auction. For example, if we are picking a certain player and he is missing the playoffs, do we have a backup? One should understand that we cannot sign a replacement for a player if he is not injured or has not pulled out. We hope to get a concrete response before the auction,” one of the franchise officials told InsideSport.

Camron Green is the biggest topic of discussion. Even though he has signed up for auction and is on the shortlist, franchises do not know whether he will be available in part or full. Australia coach Andrew McDonald has hinted that Cricket Australia will take a decision on this later. But there is only 10 days left for the auction even though the tournament starts in March end.
“The availability details of the overseas players along with the update on the players who have been reported or banned for suspect bowling action will be sent in due course,” BCCI said in the e-mail to franchises.
When InsideSport reached out to a BCCI official on clarity, the official said franchises will be informed about the availability soon. IPL 2023 is set to start on March 31 or April 4 and run till May 30.
“We are aware of the scheduling. But as things stand, all the shortlisted players are available for full duration. We are in touch with both Cricket Australia and England. We will have some clarity before the franchises meeting in Kochi ahead of the auction,” the official told InsideSport.
Why the confusion regarding Cameron Green? –
- Cameron Green is set to be IPL Auction’s hot property.
- The all-rounder impressed everyone during the IND vs AUS series before T20 World Cup.
- Multiple franchises have cleared the salary purse for the all-rounder.
- While he has registered for the auction, Australia coach Andrew McDonald has put a question mark on his availability.
- He told Australian media that due to workload management, he may not get the NOC from Cricket Australia.
What did Andrew McDonald say? –
“His overall workload in the next 12 months of cricket, is it a concern? Yeah, I think it’s a concern for every player. We’ve spoken about it several times. It’s hypothetical to see how he’s feeling come the end of March. He’s got a lot of cricket before the IPL and I’m sure his decision won’t be made right now. It will be made later on down the track leading into the IPL,” Andrew McDonald said after the first Test against WestIndies.
