The airline giants replace non-bank lender Muthoot FinCorp, as the main sponsor of the team. Qatar Airways have long been involved in sports sponsorships, but it is its first foray into the IPL. The company recently signed Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone as its global brand ambassador. Padukone recently escorted the official FIFA World Cup trophy inside the Lusail Stadium in Qatar with Iker Casillas before Argentina vs France final.

Qatar’s entry is yet another sign that foreign companies are looking at partnering with IPL teams. Previously, Samsung had signed as the title sponsor for Mumbai Indians. Saudi Aramco has joined hands with IPL as partner. The Orange and Purple Caps presented to the most runs and the wickets have the brand attached. Similarly, Visit Saudi has now joined hands, replacing unacademy.
