IPL 2022 – Foreign Players Missing IPL 1st Week: With a brand new format and two new teams, the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League looks all set to be bigger and better than ever before. However, the first few days are likely to be dominated by domestic players. IPL 2022: TWENTY-SIX overseas STARS set to miss first week of IPL 2022 – Check out the players EACH franchise will miss in the first phase

Why will 26 overseas players miss the start of IPL 2022? The schedule of three bilateral series is clashing with the dates of IPL 2022, which is the reason why a plethora of T20 superstars will not feature in the first few fixtures of their respective IPL teams.

Check out when these three series will end:

  • West Indies vs England – England is currently competing in a Test series against West Indies. The last match of the series will be played on 28th March.
  • Pakistan vs Australia – Australia and Pakistan are currently playing a Test series, which will be followed by three ODIs and one T20I. The Test series will end on 25th March, whereas the tour will be over on 5th April.
  • South Africa vs Bangladesh – South Africa will play three ODIs and two Tests against Bangladesh. This ODI series will end on 23rd March, whereas the Test series will end on 12th April.

Check out the team-wise list of players who will miss the start of IPL 2022:

1. Chennai Super Kings – Dwaine Pretorius

Chennai Super Kings will miss only one overseas player in Dwaine Pretorius for at least the opening encounter against Kolkata Knight Riders. South African all-rounder Pretorius, who was bought for INR 50 lakhs, has been included in the ODI series against Bangladesh, while Cricket South Africa (CSA) are yet to announce the Test squad. Pretorius will miss the opening game irrespective of whether he is selected for the Tests or not, but in case he is, the 32-year-old will miss five matches.

2. Mumbai Indians – Jofra Archer (injury)

Mumbai Indians are one of the rare teams who will not miss any player because of schedule clashes with IPL. Australian all-rounder Daniel Sams’ availability was the only worry, but he will feature from the very first match as he has not been included in Australia’s ODI and T20I squad for the series against Pakistan. Rohit Sharma’s team will only miss Jofra Archer for expectedly the entire season, as the English pacer is recovering from a long-term injury.

3. Kolkata Knight Riders – Pat Cummins and Aaron Finch

Kolkata Knight Riders will be badly affected by the schedule clashes, as two of their key overseas stars in Pat Cummins and Aaron Finch will miss the first few games of IPL. Finch has been named in Australia’s ODI and T20I squads against Pakistan, and the last match of that series will be played on 5th April. Given that the IPL has a mandatory three-day quarantine guideline, the Aussie batter will not be available before KKR’s fifth match of the season. As for Cummins, he will join the team after the Test series and is expected to miss only the first match.

4. Rajasthan Royals – Rassie van der Dussen

Like CSK, Rajasthan Royals will also miss a South African star in Rassie van der Dussen. The top-order batter has been included in the Proteas squad for the ODI series against Bangladesh. Depending on whether he gets selected for the Test series or not, the 33-year-old is all set to miss between one to five matches.

5. Sunrisers Hyderabad – Marco Jansen, Sean Abbott, Aiden Markram

Sunrisers Hyderabad will be severely affected by the fixture clash, as three of their overseas players will miss the first week of IPL. Australian pacer Sean Abbott will miss at least the first couple of matches, as he has been included in the T20I and ODI squad against Pakistan. South African pacer Marco Jansen and batter Aiden Markram will feature in the ODIs against Bangladesh, and like van der Dussen, the pair is also set to miss between one to five games depending on the squad CSA announces for the Test series.

6. Delhi Capitals – David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Anrich Nortje (injury), Mustafizur Rahman, Lungi Ngidi

Delhi Capitals will be massively weakened by the fixture clash, so much so that they will have only two foreigners available for their first match. Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman and South African pacer Lungi Ngidi will be competing against each other in the upcoming ODI series, whereas Anrich Nortje is yet to recover from his injury and is expected to miss a significant chunk of the action. Besides that, Mitchell Marsh will only be available from the fourth match as he will play the T20I and ODI series against Pakistan. To top it all off, David Warner will also miss the first couple of games as he has decided to attend the funeral of his idol Shane Warne, which will be held on 30th March.

7. Royal Challengers Bangalore – Jason Behrendorff, Glenn Maxwell, Josh Hazlewood

Royal Challengers Bangalore will miss the services of three Aussie players in Jason Behrendorff, Glenn Maxwell and Josh Hazlewood. Hazlewood is expected to link up with the team after the completion of the Test series against Pakistan and is likely to miss only one game, whereas Glenn Maxwell could miss a couple of games as he will enter the wedlock on 27th March. As for Behrendorff, he is set to miss a minimum of three matches after getting selected in the ODI and T20I squad for the Pakistan tour.

8. Punjab Kings – Jonny Bairstow, Kagiso Rabada, Nathan Ellis

Punjab Kings will miss three players at the start of IPL 2022. Wicketkeeper-batter Jonny Bairstow, who is currently with the English Test squad in the West Indies tour, will miss at least one match, whereas Aussie pacer Nathan Ellis will miss four matches owing to national duties. Besides that, South African pace spearhead Kagiso Rabada will also miss between one to five matches.

9. Lucknow Super Giants – Marcus Stoinis, Jason Holder, Kyle Mayers, Mark Wood, Quinton de Kock

Like Delhi, Lucknow Super Giants are staring at a situation where they will have only two overseas stars to field in the playing XI, since as many as five players are unlikely to be available at the start. English pacer Mark Wood and the West Indian duo of Kyle Mayers and Jason Holder are currently competing in the ongoing Test series. Besides that, Marcus Stoinis will join the team only after the T20I and ODI series against Pakistan and will miss four matches, whereas like every other South African player, Quinton de Kock will miss between one to five matches.

10. Gujarat Titans – David Miller, Alzarri Joseph

Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat Titans are also set to miss a couple of overseas players at the start of IPL 2022. South African batter David Miller has been selected for the ODI series against Bangladesh, whereas Caribbean pacer Alzarri Joseph is currently playing in the Test series against England.
