Usually, the tickets go on sale at least two weeks before the 1st match. However, this time the delay has been caused by the ongoing discussion over the capacity.
“The tickets should be live from Wednesday for all venues and matches including in Pune,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

IPL 2022 Tickets: Why is there a delay in tickets going live?
- The BCCI and the Maharashtra government have been in discussion over sitting capacity.
- Initially, the number was fixed at 25% but the BCCI requested to increase it to 40% considering the Covid-19 situation is under control.
- The Covid-19 high alert stalled the discussions.

While the Maharashtra government announced 25% capacity for all stadiums in Mumbai and Pune, with high alert from the Government of India due to rising Covid cases in China and Europe, the decision was put on hold. However, instead of playing matches in empty stadiums, there could be an increase in capacity to up to 40% for league matches. A decision will be taken today.
“There has been a lot of back and forth on the sitting capacity. Then the Covid alert came. But the discussions have been very positive and we expect at least 40% crowd for the league matches. But in any case, it’s not final. There should be a decision by today,” the senior official said.

One may ask why the BCCI requested for an increase in capacity. The real reason is the demand for tickets amongst government officials and commercial partners. out of the 25 capacity, the BCCI had to give away tickets to Mumbai Cricket Association, Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) besides commercial partners, sponsors, players and the government officials including the police, fire brigade amongst others. That would have left only 10% tickets for the general public.
