IPL 2022: MS Dhoni stars in CSK’s foot-volley session – Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni loves to play foot-volley to warm up ahead of a training session. At CSK, it has become a norm like it was during the India camps. In Surat, ahead of Day 2 practice, he seemed unhappy with his teammates missing passes and was seen instructing them how to play footvolley. Follow IPL 2022 Live Updates on InsideSport.IN.

After the footvolley session, CSK skipper was seen at his destructive mode, taking on bowlers for massive sixes. CSK uploaded a video on their social media handles on Monday, where Dhoni is seen sweating it out in the nets, smacking the ball to all parts of the ground.

Besides Dhoni, the likes of C Hari Nishant, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, KM Asif and Ambati Rayudu have also joined the camp, as reports state that the strength will be between 25 to 30 players, including the net bowlers.

Defending champions CSK became the first team to begin practice ahead of IPL 2022 at the Lalbhai Contractor Stadium in Surat on Sunday. With the pitch at the stadium also having black soil similar to Mumbai pitches, MS Dhoni advised the team to practice there and get acclimatised to the condition.

IPL 2022: Why are CSK practising in Surat instead of Mumbai?

  • The pitch at the stadium also has black soil as a foundation like the pitches in Mumbai.
  • It will help the team get acclimatised to the condition.
  • The training session would help players to connect with each other ahead of the full-fledged season.
  • Around 25-30 players, support staff, medical staff, members of CSK management, net bowlers have travellled to Surat for the training camp.
  • Dwayne Bravo is also expected to join the camp before shifting to Mumbai.

The likes of captain Dhoni, Ambati Rayudu, KM Asif have been training while bowling coach L Balaji was also spotted at the venue during training in photos shared by the franchise.

Injured Deepak Chahar may miss the majority of the IPL 2022 season for CSK, said a report by ESPNCricinfo on Wednesday.

Chahar had sustained a right quadriceps injury while turning out for India in the final T20I against West Indies at Kolkata and was ruled out of the subsequent T20I series against Sri Lanka.

CSK paid Rs 14 crore to secure the services of Chahar at the IPl 2022 mega auction. CSK will open their campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai which will also be the opening match of the 10-team IPL 2022.
