Mumbai Indians Failure – Reason No. 1: Famed Middle-order failing BIG-TIME
The MI franchise middle-order has failed to finish games for the franchise in the last five games. SuryaKumar Yadav is the only positive. Kieron Pollard, in particular, is yet to play an innings of substance for his loyal franchise. The duo are the only players to soak up pressure in challenging situations and dominate the bowling department. Meanwhile, the youngsters in form of Anmolpreet Singh, Tilak Varma and Baby ABD aka Dewald Brevis are being groomed at the franchise.
Kieron Pollard- Last 5 matches

vs Royals | 22 | 1/46 | 02-Apr-2022 | DY Patil | T20 |
vs Capitals | 3 | — | 27-Mar-2022 | Brabourne | T20 |
Mumbai Indians Failure – Reason No. 2: FLOP Jasprit Bumrah
MI pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has failed to live up to potential in the last 5 matches for the franchise. The yorker specialist has managed to rake up just 4 wickets and ended wicketless in 3/5 matches. The 28-year-old is the backbone of Mumbai Indians’ bowling department especially after his partner in crime Trent Boult was sold to Rajasthan Royals (RR).
Match | Bat | Bowl | Date | Ground | Format |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
vs Punjab Kings | 0 | 1/28 | 13-Apr-2022 | Pune | T20 |
vs RCB | — | 0/31 | 09-Apr-2022 | Pune | T20 |

vs Capitals | — | 0/43 | 27-Mar-2022 | Brabourne | T20 |
Mumbai Indians Failure – Reason No. 3: Rohit Sharma’s own FORM
If Bumrah has been patchy, MI captain Rohit Sharma is also out of form. In fact, he is yet to score a fifty in all those 5 matches that Mumbai lost. The franchise needs him to play big knocks at the start to set up the platforms for SuryaKumar Yadav and Kieron Pollard to finish off the innings whether it’s setting up big totals or chasing targets.
Match | Bat | Date | Ground | Format |
---|---|---|---|---|
vs Punjab Kings | 28 | 13-Apr-2022 | Pune | T20 |
vs RCB | 26 | 09-Apr-2022 | Pune | T20 |
vs KKR | 3 | 06-Apr-2022 | Pune | T20 |
vs Royals | 10 | 02-Apr-2022 | DY Patil | T20 |
vs Capitals | 41 | 27-Mar-2022 | Brabourne | T20 |
Mumbai Indians Failure – Reason No. 4: Lack of quality spinner
MI lacks a quality spinner to help them pile pressure on the opposition during slog overs. In fact, Murugan Ashwin is the only big name among spinners as West Indies star bowler Fabian Allen continues to sit on the bench. The decision to let go off Rahul Chahar at mega auctions has proved to be a nightmare for the five-time champions.
Mumbai Indians had failed to qualify for playoffs in the last edition of the IPL as well.
Now if they fail again, this will be 1st time since Rohit Sharma era started that MI will fail to make the cut for the PLAY-OFFS for two consecutive IPL Seasons.
