IPL 2022 – Watch CSK beat SRH Highlights: After a lacklustre show in eight matches, Chennai Super Kings returned to winning ways with MS Dhoni back as captain. Ravindra Jadeja stepped down a day before the match. Dhoni led CSK eased past Sunrisers Hyderabad. “What I felt was it (Captaincy) had an effect on his (Ravindra Jadeja) game. I would love to have a Jadeja as a bowler, as a batter and a fielder. We were losing a great fielder,” MS Dhoni said at the post-match presentation.
“Between me and Jadeja, he knew last season itself that he will be given a chance to captain this year. He knew and got enough time to prepare, what is important is you want him to lead the side and I wanted that transition to happen,” MS Dhoni said at the post-match presentation.

MS Dhoni admitted that he was the shadow captain in the first two matches and after that it was all Jadeja who had to take the decisions on field. But for an inexperienced Jadeja, things did not go well. His performance dipped both with the bat and the ball and even dropped catches.
“In the first 2 games there was information going in towards Jaddu and after that, I left it to him to decide which angle to bowl and all that. At the end of the season, you don’t want him to feel as if the captaincy was done by someone else and I’m just going for a toss. So it was a gradual transition,” Dhoni said.

IPL 2022: MS Dhoni makes BIG REVEAL why he took over CSK captaincy, says ‘Jadeja knew and got enough time to prepare’
The legendary captain, who guided CSK to 4 IPL titles, admitted that Jadeja’s dip in performance was a big reason why he had to step into the captaincy shoes once again.
“Spoon-feeding doesn’t really help captain, on the field you have to take those crucial decisions and you have to take responsibility for those decisions. Once you become the captain, you have to take care of lot many things and that also includes taking care of your own game. With him, his mind was working a lot. What I felt was it had an effect on his game. I would love to have a Jadeja as a bowler, as a batter and a fielder. We were losing a great fielder,” MS Dhoni added.
Ultimately, after losing against Punjab Kings, CSK returned to winning ways with homeboy Ruturaj Gaikwad firing 99 off 57 besides Devon Conway smashing 85. Thanks to their contributions, CSK set a target of 203. SunRisers Hyderabad managed to 189/6 in their 20 overs at the MCA Stadium on Sunday, losing the match by 13 runs.
“I think it was a good score to defend. It’s one of those coincidences where we got off to a good start and forced the bowlers to bowl the areas where we wanted to hit. The kind of target we got was a very good one. The phase that really worked for us was where the spinners were bowling after 6 overs,” said MS Dhoni.
After registering their third win of the season MS Dhoni-led CSK will now take on Royal Challengers Bangalore on Wednesday.
