IPL 2022: No Jofra Archer in IPL 2022 – Despite speculations of a surprise early return, Mumbai Indians have confirmed that star recruit Jofra Archer will miss the 15th edition of the IPL. The star England pacer is continuing with his recovery and the Rs 8 Cr player won’t be part of this season. However, he is counting days to play with Kieron Pollard and Jasprit Bumrah. Archer continues to recover from an elbow injury that has seen him being sidelined for almost a year. Although he is out of IPL and won’t be joining Mumbai Indians this season, he is already blending in with his future teammates virtually. He will have a familiar face in Mahela Jayawardene waiting for him. Jofra and Mahela worked together at Khulna Titans during the 2017 Bangladesh Premier League.

“I am really excited to get started with MI – it is a great franchise. Mahela Jayawardene was one of my first coaches, we have the likes of Polly – I have played a few games against him, this is probably the first time I will play with him. I am hoping to start winning games and trophies soon,” Jofra Archer said.

The 26-year-old, who has undergone two surgeries to treat his troubled right elbow, will sit out of the IPL this year as he continues his recovery from injury. But he’s already excited by the prospect of joining the franchise in future.

“MI looks very close-knit and family-oriented and such teams always do well. That’s why it is no surprise that we have won five titles. Polly’s been there 10 years, Malinga was there a long time, the same with Rohit too. These things make you feel safe when you come into the team as a new player,” Jofra Archer told Mumbai Indians.

That Mumbai Indians retain their core players for a long time and try to go for such players. Archer is excited at that fact as he believes a long-term prospect at any team helps the player feel secure.

“Polly’s (Kieron Pollard) been there 10 years, (Lasith) Malinga was there a long time, the same with Rohit (Sharma) too. These things make you feel safe when you come into the team as a new player,” Jofra Archer said.
