IPL 2022 Mega Auction: The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League is around the corner. Before the big event this year, there is the Mega Auction where are the Indian and international stars, apart from those already retained by the franchise, are set to go under the hammer. From this year two new teams – Lucknow Super Giants and a team based out of Ahmedabad – are set to feature in the league, making it a 10-team affair. When will the auction be held?
The Auction this year will be a two-day affair. It will be held on 12th and 13th February.

Where will the auction be held?
The mega auction is set to take place in Bengaluru.

How many players have been shortlisted for the Auction?
Out of the 1214 players, 590 players will go under the hammer among which 370 will be Indians while the remaining 220 will be overseas players.

What are the base prices that the players have set themselves?
INR 2 crore is the highest reserve price and as many as 48 players have chosen to place themselves in this bracket. There are 20 players in the auction list with a reserve price of INR 1.5 crore while 34 playeres are in the list of cricketers with a reserve price of INR 1 crore. There are other base prices as well like INR 75 lakhs, INR 50 lakhs and INR 20 lakhs.

How many Indians have set the highest base price? 

A total of 17 Indians have set 2 crore as their base price. Some of the players are Ravichandran Ashwin, Shikhar Dhawan, Yuzvendra Chahal, Deepak Chahar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Suresh Raina, Harshal Patel, Mohammad Shami etc.

Who are the foreigners in the highest base price category? 

A total of 31 players have listed themselves in the 2 crore category. Some of them are Pat Cummins, Trent Boult, David Warner, Quinton de Kock, Kagiso Rabada, Steve Smith, Faf du Plessis and Dwayne Bravo.

Who are the marquee players in the auction? 

This year IPL has listed 10 players in the marquee players category. They are Ravichandran Ashwin, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Kagiso Rabada, Trent Boult, Quinton de Kock, Pat Cummins, David Warner, Faf du Plessis and Mohammad Shami

What was the total auction purse for all the franchises? 

All the teams were given 90 crores before the retentions this year. Now the teams enter the auction with the remaining amount they have after manking the retentions.

What are the auction rules this year? 

  • The IPL 2022 auction will take place in a bio-bubble.
  • The officials representing the franchises will have to clear COVID tests with negative RT-PCR report on February 9, 10 & 11. The testing will be conducted by BCCI accredited medical agency.
  • There will be no Right to Match (RTM) option in IPL 2022 Auction.
  • BCCI will keep a close watch on those arriving at the team hotel on February 11. They will be monitored for COVID-19 symptoms.
  • The testing will be conducted between 12 am to 7 am to ensure smooth conduct of the IPL 2022 Auction on February 12-13. The members will stay in their rooms until declared negative for the virus.
  • Only the participants who pass the test and complete quarantine norms will be eligible to take part.
  • All the attendees will have to share full details including COVID vaccination results (if any) with the BCCI medical team.
  • All the participants will have to wear masks in the auditorium at the auction table.
