IPL 2022 – Lucknow Franchise Coaching Staff: Former India coach Gary Kirsten and India pacer Ashish Nehra are in radar for a newly-bought IPL franchise in Lucknow. Kirsten and Nehra are likely to become head coach and consultant respectively. The duo had won the 2011 World Cup with Team India. Discussions have taken place between the RPSG and two stalwarts of the Indian cricket team. IPL 2022 New Teams: Ashish Nehra, Gary Kirsten in radar for Lucknow franchise- Report

IPL 2022 – Lucknow Franchise Coaching Staff: InsideSport had earlier reached out to Sanjeev Goenka, owner of the RPSG group, who bagged the Lucknow franchise. RPSG group earlier owned Rising Pune Supergiants in IPL & will now operate Lucknow franchise.

Franchise too is tightlipped about engaging the duo.

“It is good be back in the IPL and I am delighted. It is an initial step. We now have to build a good team and perform,” Sanjiv Goenka, owner of the RPSG declared had declared earlier to InsideSport.

  • Kirsten coached India from 2008 to 2011 where India won numerous trophies and ultimately the 2011 World Cup.
  • Nehra will bring in a host of experience of playing in IPL and international cricket.
  • While Nehra has previously worked as a bowling coach of RCB in IPL 2018, Kirsten was head coach of the franchise in IPL 2019.
  • The RPSG Group had picked Lucknow as their home base with a winning bid of ₹7,090 crore.
  • The new franchises will participate in IPL from 2022 season onwards after the bidders complete the post-bid formalities as specified in the ITT document.
  • The IPL 2022 season will comprise ten teams and will have 74 matches, wherein each team will play 7 home and 7 away matches.

Ahmedabad & Lucknow

  • Ahmedabad, Lucknow obviously will start with new leader.
  • As per the IPL Retention rules, they will be allowed to pick 3 players before the IPL Auctions.
  • One of these 3 picks is likely to lead these teams in Season 15.
  • 2 New teams will have to finalise their 3 players outside of auction between 1st December 2021 to 30th December 2021.
  • Teams can pick a maximum of two Indian players and a foreigner after the cricketers are retained by existing franchises.
