IPL 2022: Great Christmas Gift coming IPL & CVC Capital way, ‘Ahmedabad IPL Franchise set to get GREEN-SIGNAL’ says BCCI official

IPL 2022 Auction Dates – The delay in the decision making in regard to Ahmedabad franchise has made BCCI push various datelines on the auctions and IPL Media rights tender.

After the two new franchises were announced on October 25th, BCCI had given few important datelines in regard to the future of IPL 2022 & otherwise.

  • IPL 2022 Retention Nov 30th: BCCI had asked all existing 8 franchises to finalize their retentions before Nov 30th. This deadline was adhered to by the franchises.
  • December 25th – Was the deadline set for the two existing franchises to finalize their 3 signings before the MEGA-AUCTION – But now the same will be pushed to 15th January or beyond.
  • IPL Media Rights Auction: It was also decided by the BCCI that the IPL Media Right Auctions will be completed by January 2022 – but now the MEDIA RIGHTS AUCTIONS will only be completed in February.

IPL 2022 Auction Dates – Lucknow franchise starts making announcements

The ownership of CVC-backed Ahmedabad franchise stays undecided but Lucknow franchise has started making their announcements.

The Lucknow IPL team promoters have already announced Andy Flower as Coach of the team & Gautam Gambhir as mentor of the team. Vijay Dhaiya has been finalized as team’s Assistant coach.

Adhering to the diktat from BCCI, Lucknow franchise has currently stalled all conversations with the players for potential signings.

But InsideSport can confirm that official signing with KL Rahul is just a formality now.

IPL 2022 Mega Auctions will now take place on February 7th & 8th according to a PTI Report

The BCCI is planning to hold the two-day mega Indian Premier League auction on February 7 and 8 in Bengaluru, a senior BCCI official said on Wednesday. It could well be the last mega auction that BCCI might conduct as most of the original IPL franchises want it to be discontinued.

“Unless the COVID-19 situation worsens, we will have the IPL mega auction in India. The two-day event will be held on February 7 and 8 and like other years, we plan to hold it in Bengaluru. Preparations are underway,” a senior BCCI official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

There were reports that auction will be held in the UAE but as of now, BCCI has no such plans.

However with the emergence of Omicron variant of COVID-19 and cases on the rise, the situation will remain fluid but if there are restrictions with regards to overseas travel (unless all owners decide to use charter planes), conducting it in India will be less of a logistical nightmare.

This year’s IPL will be a 10-team affair with Sanjiv Goenka owned Lucknow franchise along with venture capital firm CVC owned Ahmedabad making their debut in the cash rich league.
