At the tender age of 17, Rajvardhan Hangargekar lost his father to Covid in 2020. Instead of shutting himself, Rajvardhan decided to chase his dreams. He practiced hard and had a sensation 2021 calendar year. “Tough phase for me [but I told myself], ‘Okay, I have to accept what has happened but I can’t just keep sitting and put myself in a bad frame of mind’. So I knew what I had to do. It was tough for me to go out there and practice again with the same intensity and all that. I had already decided my goals. I knew what I wanted to do,” he told Cricbuzz.

“I somehow managed to make a pitch in my farm and practice… got in touch with my coaches, trainers, so I didn’t miss my training,” he added.
Rajvardhan Hangargekar decided to return to his village, located in Osmanabad, and began his full fledges practice. With his eyes fixed on the target, Hangargekar used practice multiple times during the day. Apart from soiling his field, he took turns in practice to work on his field. He communicated with his coach on a regular basis and but owing to lockdown, he carried out his practices on his own. His coach Mohan Jadhav told Cricbuzz, “we used to talk via video conference, and then I used to analyse and tell corrections. He had taken the weights to do weight training at his place. During the lockdown time, he did all the training by himself.”

Apart from his heroics in the ICC U19 World Cup 2022, for his home state Maharashtra, he has already played 5 List A games alongside 2 T20 matches. In the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, he bagged 19 wickets in 8 matches and scored 216 runs with his best score of 93 not out. However, the icing on the cake was when Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings batted out bidding war for the youngster. He ultimately signed for CSK who bought him for a salary cap of 1.5 Crores.
With the aim to become a better human and a better cricketer, Rajvardhan Hangargekar weathered some serious storms at a tender age and came out as a successful individual. With a rapid rise in form, from a U19 World Cup winner to being bought to an IPL team captained by MS Dhoni, the future only has the best set for the young Rajvardhan Hangargekar.
