IPL 2022: From Shreyas Iyer to Ravindra Jadeja – how have 8 New Captains of KKR, GT, PBKS, DC, LSG, RCB, CSK & SRH have fared in IPL 2022?
Barring the four names, there have been plenty of changes with six teams getting a new captain to lead. Amongst them, Hardik Pandya and Faf du Plessis made their captaincy debut in IPL. But how have they fared after playing two matches each? InsideSport takes a look.
Shreyas Iyer (KKR) – 2 wins in 3 matches – The record may suggest Shreyas Iyer hasn’t had a 100% record but he has been the most impressive one so far. He has led from the front, made important changes and has taken tough decisions when required to, making him the best captain in the league so far. KKR have won two matches and lost one despite fighting hard.
Hardik Pandya (GT) – 2 wins in 2 matches – Hardik Pandya is the other one who has impressed so far. It may be his first outing as a captain but he never looked lacking confidence. Given he is also a bowler, he has utilised that knowledge to full effect, setting perfect field and backing in form bowlers to complete their quota. He has been impressive.

Mayank Agarwal (PBKS) 2 wins, 1 loss: Mayank Agarwal is the other captain who is still surfing the vast waters. He has been decent so far with the bowling changes and backing their players. Backing Vaibhav Arora to bowl four overs on the trot also needed guts and he did that. All that he is required now is to fire with the bat.
Rishabh Pant (DC) – 1 win, 1 loss: With backing from Ricky Ponting, Rishabh Pant is slowly emerging as the next captain to watch out for. He has been gutsy, never shied away from backing players. He has been impressive in making bowling changes, setting up the field or prompting bowlers where to bowl from behind the stumps.

KL Rahul (LSG) – 1 win, 1 loss: At the new franchise, KL Rahul wanted to reinvent himself after four seasons with PBKS. But KL Rahul is yet to get into the skin of a captain. He is a great batsman but hasn’t yet proved whether he deserves to be a captain. As he is in contention with Rishabh Pant for the next Indian captain’s role, Rahul is miles behind in anticipating moves. He has been timid in making bowling changes and hasn’t been attacking enough as a captain. A lot is desired of him and Gautam Gambhir would be in ideal place to back him.
Faf du Plessis (RCB) – 1 win, 1 loss – Captaincy in IPL maybe his first but Faf du Plessis is already a recognised captain for leading South Africa. But in the IPL, he has shown to be reluctant, taking more tips than necessary from former captain Virat Kohli. But as the tournament progresses, he is expected to take the mantle in his own hand.
IPL 2022: From Shreyas Iyer to Ravindra Jadeja – how have 8 New Captains of KKR, GT, PBKS, DC, LSG, RCB, CSK & SRH have fared in IPL 2022?
Ravindra Jadeja (CSK) – 3 losses in 3 matches – He has been unlucky with the toss in the first two matches with injuries also playing a major role but Ravindra Jadeja hasn’t impressed as captain. One would have expected that with MS Dhoni’s backing, Jadeja would be an instant success but that hasn’t been the case. He has let Dhoni control the field settings while hasn’t been impressive with the bowling changes. Above all, he has lost his form after captaincy, scoring 43 runs in three matches while taking just 1 wicket so far.
It’s a festival that marks new beginnings. Full marks to Kane Williamson for the effort to announce it in our way. 🧡#OrangeArmy #ReadyToRise #TATAIPL pic.twitter.com/HljaHpsl5I

Kane Williamson (SRH) – 1 loss in 1 match – With the team he has been provided with, it’s difficult to say whether he will have any success at all. One of the most successful New Zealand captains, Williamson in his full-time as SRH captaincy, is yet to show whether he is able to take the tough calls. The match against LSG on Monday will be a test for him to turn things around after an embarrassing start to the season.
