The 15th edition of IPL will begin on March 26. Ahead of IPL 2022, three teams were still undecided on captains. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and Punjab Kings (PBKS). KKR had earlier announced Shreyas Iyer as their leader. With that, RCB are the only team to make an official announcement with Faf du Plessis likely to be named the captain. InsideSport takes a look at the all captains of IPL 2022.

1: Mayank Agarwal – Punjab Kings

PBKS announced Mayank Agarwal as their captain for the 15th edition of the IPL. Agarwal was the incumbent vice-captain to KL Rahul in 2019, 2020, 2021. Naturally, with Rahul now gone the management has decided to name Agarwal as their skipper for IPL 2022. He has been with the franchise since 2018.

2: Shreyas Iyer – Kolkata Knight Riders

Shreyas Iyer, who was brought for 12.25 crores by KKR has been entrusted with captaincy also. Iyer has a good amount of leadership experience as he led Delhi Capitals for two years. He is also a solid middle-order batter and can play the sheet anchor role as well as the aggressor role to perfection.

3: KL Rahul – Lucknow Super Giants

KL Rahul will lead Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2022. The right-hand batter was brought by LSG for 17 crores ahead of the mega auctions. Rahul has three years of leadership experience as he was the skipper for PBKS. He has also consistently scored over 500 runs in three seasons of IPL.

4: Hardik Pandya – Gujarat Titans

All-rounder Hardik Pandya will lead Gujarat Titans one of two news teams in IPL 2022. The junior Pandya was brought by GT for 15 crores. He has never led an IPL team before. The 29-year-old made his IPL debut in 2015 for Mumbai Indians. He has played for seven years for MI and has won four titles.

5: MS Dhoni – Chennai Super Kings

Dhoni will yet again lead CSK in IPL 2022 season. The 40-year-old has led the franchise since the inception of IPL. He is the most capped captain and has won four titles. Dhoni was retained by CSK as their second retention player ahead of mega auctions.

6: Rohit Sharma – Mumbai Indians

Rohit Sharma will be seen in the leadership role yet again for MI. The 34-year-old has won five IPL tiles since being thrust onto captaincy in 2013. He is also the team’s opening batter and is their leading run-scorer. Rohit’s calm head and calculative approach is what sets him apart from the rest of the leaders.

7: Rishabh Pant – Delhi Capitals

Rishabh Pant will be in charge of leading DC in IPL 2022. The wicketkeeper batter was announced as the captain in 2021 when Shreyas Iyer missed the first leg of IPL. Pant did a fabulous job and took DC to the playoffs. The management have backed the youngster to lead for the upcoming season.

8: Sanju Samson – Rajasthan Royals (RR)

Sanju Samson will lead RR in IPL 2022. This will be the second season after he led the franchise in 2021. The wicketkeeper-batter earned praises from experts due to his handling of young bowlers Kartik Tyagi and Chetan Sakariya. He also batted well scoring over 400 runs in IPL 2021.

9: Kane Williamson – Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

Kane Williamson will be the leader of SRH in IPL 2022. He was given the full-time captaincy in the second half of IPL 2021. Williamson also filled in as the leader for David Warner in IPL 2018 season. He took the team to the finals. The right-hand batter has a vast amount of leadership experience owing to his stellar record as New Zealand captain.

10: Faf Du Plessis/ Glenn Maxwell – RCB:

Royal Challengers Bangalore are the only team left to announce their captain. While Glenn Maxwell was touted as their new leader after Virat Kohli stepped down, Faf du Plessis is now leading the race. He is all set to be named new captain this week.
